Riften house

Can someone explain to me exactly what is necessary to buy the house in Riften? I've killed 4-5 bandit leaders, three dragons, and gone and picked up the items for the court wizard. I no longer am able to pick up quests from the steward nor anyone else in the court. Is my game bugged or is there something I'm missing here?

I thought I'd never be able to have the option of buying the Riften house, but I kept on doing quests for the jarl, the Argonian girl, for the jarl's steward, and for various townsfolk until, FINALLY, I got the option to buy. I was afraid the quest was bugged too, since it was taking me so long, but eventually I got it. Best of luck! I lived in the Whiterun house as another character, but I like the Riften house better. It seems homier to me.

Thanks for the help guys! I did end up eventually getting the option just by doing a ton of quests in Riften. Was definitely worth it in the end; it's a great house.

For me i just sided with the imperials... then later during the main quest i gave the imperials riften though the peace treaty negotiations... Which made Maven Black-Briar the jarl (I also completed the DB questline and the Thieves Guild questline) and she allowed me to buy a house. I want to marry that *censored*! :D

It seems like the main chain of quests that enable you to buy the house revolve around the skooma addict Argonian from the fishery. I had also done the firesalts for the blacksmith, the sword retreival for the bravehart makeup girl, as well as helping the forgetful mage elf with something, I dont remember what it was, as well as the Argonian with the lexicon. I did about three dragon bounties for the steward but those seemed more like they were for income than anything. Seems like you do the skooma chain and help maybe three or four others randomly.
