Badly need a mesh editing "teacher", please help!

Having a great appreciation of mods and some ideas of my own in my head, I thought I would try my hand at some stuff beyond basic G.E.C.K. usage. Just stiching together some pieces of existing guns to make custom new ones, nothing fancy. But having tried my hand at using programs like Blender and NifSkope, I must say, I badly need the help of someone in the community! I am absolutely amazed at how you guys are able to learn this stuff.

I have tried a multitude of tutorials, but always with the same result. They all make it look so extremely simple, and whip together a rather decent-looking weapon in about 20 minutes. But while they go through some of the most important functions, they all forget to teach necessary basics like rotating the models and changing your view, dragging stuff around, what the most essential buttons do etc. and I often see them clicking a bunch of stuff while talking about something else entirely. So basically it's like being taught algebra before knowing how to count to 10. Add to that seemingly random technical issues that I have no chance of identifying the cause of, and doing even the most basic stuff is a tall order.

I really have put hours into trying to find decent tutorials, getting it to work right and playing around with it, but with no progress whatsoever. I'd REALLY like to aquire the skills to do at least the easier stuff myself. So I beg of you, the community, will someone PLEASE try to make an effort to teach me? I need to have a dialogue with someone who knows this stuff, instead of listening to some mumbly recording that doesn't always even match what's going on on screen, or is missing 2/3 steps in a process. I just want to know basic functions and how to cut up pre-existing meshes to make a new weapon model out of it, that is all.

I have a guide I've written that shows my process for making a custom weapon with existing assets that you could have a read through. I think it should be simple enough for a beginner, since its the same process I've used on my first ever weapon mod and I still use it today.

You can find it here - http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61315?
