Tarm
Hello. If I join the Imperial Legion or the Stormcloaks and help one of them to win what happens to Whiterun? I'm kinda fond of the place and would like to avoid having it taken over by either side or destroyed or something.
McclaudEagle
Well, I went with the Legion, and managed to win the battle. Whiterun does suffer from quite a bit of damage, but after leaving the city and coming back a few days later, it looks pretty much the same with lots of Legion soldiers and better fortifications around it. Tarm
Thank you for the answer. Then it doesn't sound that bad. I have a couple more questions if that's alright. What happens to the people in the city? Do some die, lose their homes, jobs etc.Is the Jarl still in power or is there a new one?So no more Whiterun guards? Only imperial soldiers? If I have a house there what happens to it and the stuff I have stored there?Am I still a Thane in the city? That'll do for now. I'll probably come up with a lot more questions later. ;) I'd play and check myself but I've heard it's a long quest line and having to revert to a save before I begin it is just to much lost work I've invested in my character. Do some die, lose their homes, jobs etc.Nope, they all hide in their homes and stay out of the battle. Is the Jarl still in power or is there a new one?Jarl Barlgruff remains as Jarl no matter which path you take.So no more Whiterun guards? Only imperial soldiers?Whiterun guards stay if you chose the legion, but if you chose stormcloaks then they take over the city.If I have a house there what happens to it and the stuff I have stored there?Nothing.Am I still a Thane in the city?Yes. That'll do for now. I'll probably come up with a lot more questions later. ;) I'd play and check myself but I've heard it's a long quest line and having to revert to a save before I begin it is just to much lost work I've invested in my character. rooj
When I took over Whiterun with the Stormcloaks, one of the people from Grey-Mane or Battle-Born became Jarl, can't remember who. Vignar or something?
knightofheaven
That is correct if you side with the stormcloaks you will be atacking the city ( lol i killed Lydia My housecarl during the atack becouse she sides with jarl barlgruff.) In the battle you made the jarl surrender and he got banished from Whiterun, then Vignar grey Mane is made new jarl of whiterun. The city then after some time is filled with stormcloak city guards. Jarl Barlgruff remains as Jarl no matter which path you take. This is incorrect. Edited November 20, 2011 by knightofheaven
Vagrant0
I did notice one thing, one of the houses near the big tree becomes inaccessible after the siege because of debris. I don't recall what was there before, but it does bother.
Snowsong
I sided with the Stormcloaks. After the battle of Whiterun, the city was exactly the same except the guards were then Stormcloak instead of Imperial. All the stores are still there and still run the same way by the same people. Your house is still there if you bought a house there.

It's interesting that some things change depending on which side you chose. Imperial or Stormcloaks.
