Skyrim windows 10 crash on startup

Hey all,

I'm new here so pls say something if I do any mistakes^^

I bought a new laptop and installed windows 10 yesterday. Since now I had absolutely no problems with skyrim on Windows 7 but my new medion erazer p6661 crashs after the Bethesda logo.

This usually happens when I loaded my mods in the wrong order or didn't include needed one but even if I don't install any mod or dlc the game crashs. I have absolutely no plan what I can do to fix it.

I installed and removed it several times I tried to install all and none dlc I tried to install skse (which says it requires skyrim version 1.9 and on my pc is just 0.xxx when I install all dlcs but doesn't show any error message when I'm on version 1.3 without them)

I copied my skyrim folder from my old laptop, copied only the data folder tried to include dlcs with nexus mod manager but the problem never disappeared.

I have a Intel i5-6200u, 8gb DDR3 ram, geforce gtx 950M, with a relative clean windows 10. I only installed all drivers and directX 9 since I could not start the game without.

I would be so happy if someone have a solution for me because I want to play skyrim on my new laptop v.v

I even though of mirroring my hdd from my old laptop to the second hdd in my new laptop but there is no windows 7 support.

Pls help.

Have a nice weekend

Use steam to update your game. SKSE has checks for piracy and many parts of it, including the memory patch, will not be functional on a non-steam version of the game.

Here is a list of things you may do if you want results in term of stability.

/// Cleaning and correcting potential bugs :

  • Install USLEEP > v 3.0.4 now
  • Clean your master files to eliminate potential problems.: Gopher's videos cleaning your masterfiles on the Nexus Tesedit page.
    Start Tes5edit, simply untick everything, (right-click/select none) and add only a tick to the esm/esp you want to check + update.esm, Tesedit knows what to do and will load all the dependencies automatically.
    - Begin with loading only Skyrim + update, ITM / UDR + save ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Dawnguard, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Hearthfire, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Dragonborn, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
  • The method above can be used to clean mods. In your case the Undelete and Disable Reference, (UDR) can spare you some CTDs. If I'm correct LOOT should tells you which plugin you should clean.

/// Load order / mods conflicts : this one is the most important

/// Settings / memory :

  • Have you installed the skse patch >> memory blocks log.
  • Backup your ini files and delete the files. Skyrim.ini / SkyrimCustom.ini / SkyrimPrefs.ini found in C:\Users\Utilisateur\Documents\My Games\Skyrim then use your vanilla launcher to autodetect and use best settings for your computer.

/// Save game :

/// Meshes healer :

  • Read here, this is potentially a cause of CTD that you can resolve by following the mod procedure on this page.

/// Useful informations :

Good luck

Thank you very much for your help, unfortunately nothing worked for me v.v

TES5EDIT says all my mods are correct, LOOT didn't find errors and my mods are all clean but my game still crashs right after the skyrim logo/dragon is popping up.

After I made my skyrim vanilla again a console (TESV. Exe) appears when I click start with the text "please update to the latest version of skyrim" and an skse loader alert with the same text (which is strange since I deleted all skse files from skyrim directory)

Could it be because of my d3d9.dll?

There is one step: wrong version of directX, especially on Windows 10.

After I first started the game there were some error messages with missing dlls so I installed https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 was this wrong?

I fall into despair v.v

Edit: when I just copy and paste my whole skyrim folder to another pc it works fine. So it can't be a problem with the game, right?

Jep I tried that one.

CTD right after skyrim splash appears

I don't have xfire, don't use enb, my skyrim doesn't run vanilla and I don't have corrupted plugins.

I'm not sure what I should check in those ini files.

The only thing that was different was my skse file with only

[Loader]

RuntimeName=skyrim.exe in it

Edit: Ahh I got it now.

I forgot to deactivate high resolution display pack at the installation of the game. Seems like Windows 10 is incompatible with this mod and none program detected it.

It works now. Sry and thank you

Edit2: okey now I know the exact problem I had... Windows 10 doesn't have the .net framework but my skyrim needs it to work properly. My skyrimluncher didn't start correctly so the game crashed everytime. After I downloaded the framework everything went well
