RaffTheSweetling
Is this a known issue? Or something I am doing wrong? I created a new d.dds for my poster, a new materials .bgsm linked to my d.dds for the material swap, and a new MSWP file in the CK. When I place an "advertsposter" object into a cell and then attempt to assign it my new custom material swap it always causes the CK to CTD. Could use some advice here please. radiumskull
Is this a known issue? Or something I am doing wrong? I'm not sure how you're assigning a MSWP after you place an object in a cell. The way I've done it is, duplicate the entry of the object, then assign the material swap in the dialog inside the object's edit window. Then place it in the cell. I do have the (presumably Win10) issue where clicking on lists inside edit windows crashes CK completely. So I use FO4Edit to assign those MSWPs. Not sure if this is a fix to your issue. If you want give a more detailed description of what you're doing immediately before the CTD, I'll see if it sounds familiar. PS Don't expect to always get answers to complex issues. It's a fact of life you'll have to get used to. Edited July 19, 2016 by radiumskull
PaddyGarcia
You're sure you're saving as a .dds file?I had a swap that crashed the CK because I had foolishly saved the image as a .xcf. Are you compressing the .dds?I had a swap that crashed the CK because I had foolishly compressed the image (GIMP did it for me by defaulting to last used settings.) RaffTheSweetling
Thanks @RadiumSkull and @PaddyGarcia, for replying. Apologies for the impatience. I've seen so many discussions here about material swaps that I just thought loads of people would have some information on this topic. I'm not sure how you're assigning a MSWP after you place an object in a cell. The way I've done it is, duplicate the entry of the object, then assign the material swap in the dialog inside the object's edit window. Then place it in the cell. I started by duplicating the "AdvertsPoster01_02Swap" MSWP entry in the CK. I gave it a unique form ID and in the "replacement" field for materials swap I chose my custom .bgsm file which I had already created in Materials Editor. I take the poster "AdvertsPoster01" and place it into my cell. I chose this poster because there are many material swaps for this poster (6 variations). In the CK you can place the poster, open the object reference window and replace the skin in the "extra" tab, or, the other way is to highlight the poster, click "-" and chose "set material swap", then choose the MSWP file of your choice there. I use this method to change the colours/skins of many objects in my mod. Give walls different wallpaper, give pipes different colours, etc. This is all vanilla settings, nothing modded. So like I said, I place the AdvertsPoster01 object and hit "-", select "set material swap" and look for the new MSWP entry I have created, which uses the .bgsm I created, which references the texture file I created. I select my custom material swap from the list, and then click OK, and without fail the CK crashes. "I do have the (presumably Win10) issue where clicking on lists inside edit windows crashes CK completely. So I use FO4Edit to assign those MSWPs." I'm using Win 7, mate, and usually I don't get any crashes at all. You're sure you're saving as a .dds file?I had a swap that crashed the CK because I had foolishly saved the image as a .xcf. Yes, positive. I am using Photoshop CS6 with the Intel Texture Works plugin. When I save the file I use the default options which save it as a .dds. Are you compressing the .dds?I had a swap that crashed the CK because I had foolishly compressed the image (GIMP did it for me by defaulting to last used settings.) I don't believe I am compressing it because the file is quite large 2,228kb. Thanks for the help, and sorry for being impatient. Griffin
RaffTheSweetling
So I tried it all again, the same method, and it crashed as before. Then I tried a simpler basic object texture swap using "PosterTV" with a new .dds made for it, and it also crashed my CK during the assigning-of-the-new-.nif stage of the job. Then I tried the method you suggested, RadiumSkull, by assigning the replacement .nif in FO4edit, and when I loaded the CK and went and looked at my customer poster it also caused the CK to crash. This is truly perplexing as I have made at least one custom object before now - a retextured locket, and it didn't crash my creation kit. Totally bummed out. I really want to add custom assets to my latest mod. :(
radiumskull
I'm feeling ya, man. In several cases where CK has refused to do things it's designed to do, I've found that doing those things repeatedly, in the exact manner as before, can sometimes lead to success. Which is also a functional definition of insanity, but this IS the new CK, after all.
Gersidi76
Did you try opening it with both the 32 and 64 bit CK? Sometimes certain objects crash in the 64 but not the 32, and vice versa.
