Any point in playing right now?

So every few months I reinstall a Bethesda game, deck it out with the latest and coolest mods, and then I do a "quick" playthrough.

With the release of the cool Vault mod*cough* DLC coming up I wanted to be prepared and level up my character in advance.

HOWEVER, during my mod hunt I came across some disturbing information that the settlement system has been completely f*cked by the latest official Fallout4 patch, with settlers resetting and losing functions and whatnot. Seeing as settlements are one of my favorite things in the game, I'm wondering if I should even bother.

Is that information still up-to-date? Can I hope for a fix before the next DLC is released? Opinions?

Thanks.

Settlers are not screwed up thanks to latest v169 and the latest unofficial patch mod. to wait for nuka world to come out would be a waste of time because it is a pro raider mod and all we know so far is that the player gets to lead raiders against their own settlements what a load of bs. Build your own vault dlc is a high def version of that "app" they made for android what a waste. So unless something comes out after nuka world or there is an option to clear out nuka world then we already have the whole game except waiting for bug fixes til they make the last update for game and CK as usual.

This game is never going to be 'fixed'- either by Beth or by mods. Instead you need to make your own fun by choosing how you can squeeze enjoyment from an astonishingly flawed design. For most of us, this means mods and a lot of teeth gritting.

Beth will be delighted to DISOWN this rotten lazy ill-considered project once Skyrim rereleases- and the countdown begins to Beth's first open world title on their new iDTech engine (with Beth.net exclusive mods).

In the meantime, open world fans have no options save to continue playing FO4 or Skyrim (earlier titles are too visually primitive for most today). Watchdogs 2 looks like it is going to be outstanding- but of course such games are a very different type of open world experience. For what Beth does, most strangely Beth has ZERO competition.

Just for clarity, from what I've seen it was the unofficial patch that has had this problem.

The Bethesda devs are aware of this problem and working on a solution. Smkviper (the person at Bethesda who made papyrus scripting) has described that this was an unexpected interaction between the unofficial fallout4 patch and some old code that isn't meant to be used anymore but the unofficial patch inadvertently triggered.

With Arthmoor and Smkviper working on this from both ends, I really would expect that this problem can be solved. Maybe you should hold off from putting too much expensive equipment on your settlers just for the moment and keep your eyes and ears open for more information as this bug is resolved.

That is pretty much the kind of information I was looking for, thank you kindly.

The Settlers are useless idiots who can't find work for themselves or even walk through an open door so there has been no change at all.

Uh, maybe you need to pay more attention to the game. Settlers default to whatever job is opened. For instance if there is a crop that isn't assigned the settler will go to it, same for stores and guard posts.

The only reason I am playing right now is to gather resources. The Vault-tec Workshop is around and the corner and I would like to make sure my Vault is kitted out with all of the essentials early on. Additionally, if Far Harbor is any indication, then Nuka-Cola World will probably have a few plots of land to develop. My normal approach to building a settlement is to quickly establish a main building that will contain 2-3 shops and 20 beds with the first floor being dedicated to a bar and resting area while the second and third floors are packed with beds. After that I just put some crops around the building and defense turret towers before leaving to wait for new settlers to arrive. Frankly, I always hated this part of the settlement system because I should not have to wait hours for enough settlers to wander into my settlement to maintain the stores and crops. That said, this little formula always hits a snag when I find myself out of resources before I can put the final finishing touches on the whole thing. Hence, the need to gather while I wait.
