DVI vs. VGA

I have Oblivion and Shivering Isles on my hard drive for many months, I switch to a new wide-screen (not very special, only an HPw2007) and use the native DVI out of my (not very special) nVidia 7600GT card and now Oblivion is all partial shapes floating against black backgrounds in game - (not the load page or any of the settings or start-up pages - they're okay).

Any advice?

Thanks,

SB

First - thanks.

However, What do you mean exactly please - which Menu does not use in-game settings? And should I play with in-game options as opposed to the pre-start options?

More info: My saved game had these details worth noting: black background, central horizontal grey bar which did not move out of the way, many yellow trapazoids with fat grey exclamation marks in them, many recognisable shapes like faces, legs with pants, arms, etc, all separated from each other with blackness - no backgrounds at all.

In any event, things got worse as I tried various changes in both the in-game and pre-start menus. Soon, I couldn't open the same saved games that had the weird "world".

I then put into the Oblivion directory my saved original Data folder (from before I ever installed my first mod) and everything works fine now except all my saves have me in the Deviated Septum Inn in Imperial City! (serious! - but not about the name) .

So, I guess it is a mod being nasty with my noob mod workings. Last one I installed caused my character's body to disappear, perhaps my efforts at fixing that have caused this problem I originally posted about. I'm an avid if un-talented mod-er, been adding mods to Oblivion for a year or so. Lately I have tried to get more into it and have downloaded some utilities that go through your Data folder and "tie up loose ends" and "reorganize" things. See how stoopid I am? I don't even know the true technical workings of the mods and utilities I'm using but I do have the ernest desire to make them work. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

I keep Data folders at various milestone dates, I'll go back to the last one and see.........

hmm..did you try a diff cable yet?

have you tried messing around with the settings? (especially the shaders and shadows),

try enabling/disabling HDR lighting..etc.

If not, changing to reduce mods is a good thought..it might even be a mod gone wrong.

Try these things and get back to with the results.

What i mean with the 'in game menu', is like..the Main menu, doesn't use the ACTUAL games shader settings..like, if the menu is fine it MUST be the settings or mods..unless the menu does the same thing.
