The Pip-boy doesn't freeze time

In the Fallout games (3, NV, and 4) pip-boys freeze time when used. Although players use that to their advantage in dangerous situations, it is unimmersive. I think it would be more of a challenge if the pip-boy wouldn't pause the game when entered. And, frankly, I want to be able to play the pip-boy mini-games to pass time to wait for the crops to be harvestable and to wait for shops to open in the morning. I believe that, in vanilla, mini-games seem pointless if you can't use them as an alternative to waiting.
