Well I also refuse to kill Paarthanax. Isn't there a way to avoid the instruction to kill him somehow?

You can do it even without any mods. You just have to complete the Civil War line (or the Whiterun defence/siege quest at least) before proceeding the main line. I usually stopped on the main line after Kynesgrove. With Whiterun taken care of the main line goes a slightly different way, there are no peace negotiations, and blades don't show up in High Hrothgar. You have to go to their base and talk to them to receive the "Kill Paarthurnax" quest.

Hell no! Paarthurnax is really awesome because first of all he's a dragon, second, he teaches you a shout, and third, he helps you find a freaking Elder Scroll! I mean that's the name of the game (we never use it, we say skyrim but whatever), fourth, the way he speaks is just awesome:

"Budun kulak nosh tar kik nor vi fro tryalo ventosh nimakrula dolohayu namaki frun do mento... Dovahkiin. Welcome, Dovahkiin. Sra kern no tesh'la keniolinojuba klebushaba grentulash yotozo grentula biento lollol pizza vrontech slok mo ne vo te nor lak, how are you doing?"

As a practical kinda guy anyway I think Red Rayvan makes excellent points. I believe in gaming of the RPG genre that dragons (and anyone or thing else for that matter) only need to be removed if they are a threat not a potential one, and certainly not because someone has seen a cave drawing or read it in a dusty scroll somewhere. Skyrim has a theme running through it which is full of ignorance, superstition, and prejudice - in other words extremes. What's left of the blades attitude is consistent with that but ultimately such attitudes are self defeating. The only feudal lord I've come across with his head screwed on and worth saving is Balgruuf the greater, and his line of succession looks about as desirable as the Black Death! The blades either need a new Grand Master (you) or extinction in their current form. Paarthanax? Well he seems a reasonable kinda guy even if he does set your hair alight now and again. Besides if you as Ismir are going to sort Skyrim out you are going to need some allies and neither General Tullias or Ulfric represent good options. The Blades in their current form certainly don't. Besides according to their ethos they are only loyal to the Emperor, not the Empire- Good job! he fired them so are they going to assassinate him and his line for denouncing Talos their patron?

After all isn't your job going to be guardian or custodian of Skyrim's future? . Dragons are a real threat to everyone but if they (what's left of them) can be recruited as allies they can be used against the Altmeri who are the real problem. One step at a time. Skyrim first - the world next.Hope there's going to be a sequel

For all their talk about being "the sworn protectors" of the Dragonborn, telling her, "now, you go kill this friendly dragon or we don't want any part of you. You're not welcome here," seems kind of petty and shrewish. I'd rather kill them for being so disloyal to their oath.

Even worse than petty, it's hypocritical. If you do the peace conference, Delphine and Esbern rant and rave about how the two sides need to put aside their differences because dealing with Alduin is the most important thing in the universe. There won't be a Skyrim to fight over if Alduin eats the world. Then they turn around and tell you they won't help any more with Alduin unless you kill Paarth. Say what? Now suddenly Alduin is not the most important priority, and he can eat the world for all they care if you won't do as they say?

I think for this you need to ask a bigger question. Should the Hero let any of the dragons live? I mean the last time they were alive they enslaved the humans. Honesty the extinction of an entire species should not be take lightly. This is where I think the blades were wrong, them being to rash in there decisions. However, I think when it all boils down the dragon are to big of a liability to keep alive. Paarthurnax even said that dragons always have an urge to do evil.

guys guys guys why all the fuss?

all you guys need to do is click on paarthurnax' skeleton and type RESURRECT

that will make him LAND on the stone thingy again and greet you as if nothing happened!

make sure you do it AFTER you absorb his soul, resurrecting him during the absorption will give you an invisible/frozen paarthurnax

and Zemica, talk to him first before you kill him

he has already conquered his temptations and urges,

and think about the greybeards, what will THEY do once paarthurnax is gone huh?

THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A BATHROOM (yeah i checked)
