A simple Modification concept;

 

How many times have you been riding along on your horse when some wolves, a dragon, bandits, or god-forbid a saber cat attacks you. You hop right off, dispatch your foes, but alas too late; your horse died before you even managed to unsheathe your weapons or ready a spell, now you need to walk the rest of the way!

 

How many times have you been riding along on your horse across some rocky terrain, you start going down a slight incline (which any humanoid NPC or PC would just 'walk' down), and your horse starts to leap in slow motion downwards and die on the fall, once again, you need to walk the rest of the way!

 

I believe many could benefit from a simple mod which makes all player-purchased horses essential upon purchase; that is; once you buy a horse from a stable, and its name becomes "your name's horse" rather than "horse" it becomes essential, maybe raising the horse price would be a handy balance for this, In my second play through which is far from complete, I've already spent a good 20,000+ septims on horses, the last one's death prompted me to make this suggestion. I'd rather buy one for 30-40 thousand that I can use consistently. Otherwise, it shouldn't be unbalancing, horses aren't too great in higher-level combat, so they'll just be unconscious for most encounters, BUT you won't have to go all the way back to a stable to get a new one when you're exploring far away from any fast-travel beacons or traveling to some distant location in the wilderness.
