Please Help Game Crashes everytime I leave whiterun

Well, I'm a noob to modding and really should have read more about it before I started mixing and mashing mods together.

My main two issues are:

1. I can't leave whiterun. The game runs fine in whiterun I can talk to people, craft weapons, do everything. Except leave if I try to leave the main door the game slows then crashes. I can't fast travel either instant crash.

2. Nexus Mod Manager crashes a lot. Almost every time I open it if I don't run as administrator. And even when I do run as admin.

So I'm using nexus mod manager 0.12.7.

Here are my mods

Nvidia 3d Vision Compatibility 0.1 (my latest download mod)

Armor Improvement Update 2_1

Detailed Faces v2 2.0

No More Blocky Faces 1.3

Enhanced Blood Textures 0.03

High Quality Eyes 1.2

I installed all mods via the manager except for:

FXAA Post Process Injector

KenMOD - Lockpick Pro

I have also done these modifications as well: (Changes fov to 90)

1- Go to C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

2- Open SkyrimPrefs.ini, and search for [General] section

3- Add fdefaultfov=XX at the end of the section. (where XX is the FOV value you want to change to). For example add fdefaultfov=90

4- Open Skyrim.ini, and search for [Display] section

5- Add fDefaultWorldFOV=XX (where XX is the FOV value you put in fdefaultfov)

6- Add fDefault1stPersonFOV=xx.0000 (where XX is the FOV value you put in fdefaultfov)

and

Then, edit your Documents/My Games/Skyrim/Skyrim.ini and put the following under the [General] settings:

uGridsToLoad=15

uInterior Cell Buffer=36

uExterior Cell Buffer=180

I went a little mod crazy. I sometimes play with 3D vision. Lately I haven't been but some how this combination is giving me problems.

I'm running the game on Ultra Settings. With all water effects checked in the advanced menu. No Fxaa

The game would usually crash when I died in combat before. But now the game is unplayable since I can't leave whiterun.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game through steam. Defragging cache files, verifying cache files. I have steam cloud enabled.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I have sunk many hours into the game and really don't want to start over.

Thank you

You're going to have to start with disabling/uninstalling mods and tweaks until you can find the culprit.

uGridsToLoad=15 <-- first thing I'd tone down (back to the default of 5). I've heard saving your game with a higher setting than 5, then reverting it through the desktop can cause your save to be unable to load. Somewhere out there is a workaround for this involving using the console to tweak your .ini from in-game, though I haven't been able to locate it again since stumbling across it a couple of days ago. It's part of a decently large tweak guide.

If that doesn't help, start getting rid of any graphical enhancements one by one... If none of those help, revert your .ini's to default (move them out of the /My Games/Skyrim/ directory that way you have your tweaked versions backed up, then start the game and it should create new ones from the _default .ini's).

So since I left off my nexus manager has become completely unstable regardless of running as admin or not. I have not uninstalled it. I then did as you said and moved my ini files to a different drive. I uninstalled the game again, deleted all the mods. (Doing each one individually wasn't possible the manager kept crashing.)

Now with my newly installed game and no mods I then moved the saved folder back to its original directory. No game would load instant crash. I then went back and added these files:

uGridsToLoad=15

uInterior Cell Buffer=36

uExterior Cell Buffer=180

Now most of my saved games load. I get this message as soon as the game loads. "This save relies on content that is no longer present. Some objects may no longer be available. Continue Loading? Yes or No"

But again I can't travel outside whiterun without the game crashing.

If I change the uGridsToLoad to anything but 15 the saved games won't load

You're gonna have to find that workaround I was talking about that allows you to alter the .ini's in-game. I tried looking for it again but couldn't find it.

There is an issue people might run into were they to make this change. If you change uGrids to anything other than the default and save, you can NOT load that save when changing BACK to default.

Typical scanario:

Save game with uGrids at default (5)

Change uGrids to 9. Play a bit. Save game.

Change back to default because your FPS sucks. Try to load most recent save - game crashes.

The fix is outlined in both source articles above, but it's worth adding to your first post:

"1) Load game with uGridsToLoad at your current setting.

2) Load the save, which should load correctly.

3) Open the console and type the following:

setini "ugridstoload:general" 5

saveini

refreshini"
