WIP: The Dark Brotherhood Chronicles: Awakening

Mod #1 of a three part series devoted to expanding the DB questline after achieving the title of Listener.

The Dark Brotherhood Chronicles: Awakening is a quest driven expansion for Oblivion. Awakening is the first chapter in a series of three planned mods that will bring new locations, new quests, custom items, and new Family to the Listener. Current estimate of new playtime added by Awakening is fifteen hours.

 

PLOTLINE

After your ascension to Listener, what is left to do? Where are these other Sanctuaries mentioned in Oblivion? The Black Hand is decimated and must be restored. In Awakening, it is your job to do so. Seek out the other Sanctuaries. Learn their histories. Find the secret Stronghold of the Brotherhood and what history it holds. And be drawn into a long quest that will bring the Black Hand to full, frightening lordship and power. Or betray them.

 

PLAYER CONSIDERATIONS

The player will be faced with options at every step, from mundane tasks to decisions that will shake the Brotherhood to its core. The DBC team recognizes that every player has a different style, and we will accommodate.

The player has an opportunity to gain their own house, as well as earning custom weapons and robes.

The NPCs the player will encounter have their own personalities, histories, and oddities.

All existing Brotherhood lore has been considered, and we have striven to match Bethesda's vision of the Brotherhood's history and relevance.

Special care is being taken to make sure nothing in the mod is overpowering.

Mazes, riddles, and other thought-provoking aspects are added in.

 

PROGRESS

The main storyline for Awakening is complete, and dialogue and journal entries are being added.

Most Sanctuaries are in the final stages of beta testing.

NPCs are being placed.

Many Brotherhood supply dumps have been added to Cyrodiil.

All but one of the dungeons have been started.

Many of the custom items have been finished and added to the game world.

Outlines for the second and third mods are complete.

Another thing that got me wondering, and that was the spells. Will it be scripted like the Midas Mod, or will it just be like a normal spell such as Hail Storm (non-scripted)?

And is there any kind of recommended level for the mod, or can anyone complete it?

It will be scripted and couldn't be always succesfull, we don't want to make it overpowered. Also, there's not a recommended level, but some fights are tough, just don't expect to play it easily if you're level 1.

And you can play it if you're already Listener or you can start another game, some parts of the quests change if you're already Listener but they won't prevent you to finish the quests, you only won't have some items that could help you completing them.

Just an update, I realize we've quite neglected the Nexus forums on updates.

 

We've released two more massive updates on Modcraft.net's forums and had a full page article about us in PC Gamer UK. We are nearing completion but do need some help in the texturing, modelling (experience with tilesets is especially good) and scripting departments, as our people are seriously overworked there. Any offers to help can be posted in the Dark Brotherhood Chronicles section of the Modcraft.net forums, in the Show Us Your Stuff topic. :)
