Better graphics with worse graphics card

Hi,

 

from when I started playing Skyrim I felt the graphics is worse than Oblivion. I never could track it down but finally I realized something weird:

I have an Acer 4820TG with i5 460M, Radeon 5650, 4GB Ram and an Intel HD chip to save energy. Of course I use the Radeon chip for games but here is what happens:

 

Today I accidentally started the game with the Intel chip and these presets:

resolution: 1920*1200

AA: off

AF: off

textures: high

radial blur: low

shadow: medium

decal: medium

FXAA: on

water: only reflect land

 

distant object detail: high

object detail fade: yes

 

It lead to this screenshot:

Then I realized the game is pretty much "unplayable" and used the AMD chip with:

resolution: 1920*1200

AA: off

AF: off

textures: high

radial blur: medium

shadow: high

decal: high

FXAA: off

water: reflect land, objects, trees

 

distant object detail: high

object detail fade: no

 

And it looked like this:

What's going on?! I mean obviously the Intel image looks much better although the settings are lower. And of course the GPU is way worse? I really want Skyrim to look better than Oblivion! What can I do about this? Thank you!!!
