sykoholic001
Four questions: 1)What is an unnamed bone? 2)Why can't I find/see it in Nifskope? 3)Why does it cause GECK to crash when I try to assign the mesh to an item? 4)How do I fix it?Any help/advise/input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
RoyBatterian
Every node has a name, if that name is missing or not unique then it will cause a crash.
sykoholic001
That's the problem. According to the Block Details in Nifskope, every node has a unique name. But according to GECK, one does not and as a result, GECK crashes when I try to do a full preview.I noticed it typically happens with models that I removed the "breast" bones from. The only reason to have "breast" bones would be to enable "bouncing". So...I'm thinking that though I removed the bones, Nifskope's "Remove Branch" does not remove the "bouncing" stuff (the reference/link to the animation or whatever) and that stuff is the "un-named bone/node" that is causing the issue. mindboggles
If you've removed bones referenced in a rigged mesh in Nifskope, then that may well be your problem since the bone has been baked into the skin data of the mesh. If you want to do this properly then you will need to head into a 3D editor like Blender of 3DS Max and pull the bones out from the skin modifier then re-weight to the remaining bones. sykoholic001
I haven't had much luck learning how to use Blender so removing the bones that way is far beyond my meager capabilities. :confused:Basically, I'm wanting to use an item of armor/clothing that is equipped to "bounce" (ie: has the "breast" bones) but I don't want use a "bouncing" body replacer. Would there be any ill-effects to just leaving the "bouncing" bones of the clothing in place but NOT having a "bouncing" mod installed... or will GECK go looking for something that isn't there (the bouncing), get confused, and crash? Essentially, does the bounce look for the bones or do the bones look for the bounce? If the bounce looks for the bones, I should be good since there isn't any bounce to do any looking. However, if the bones look for the bounce, I've got a problem because the bones will be looking for something that isn't there.
