Running Skyrim faster

I can play Skyrim on low settings and it runs fine but any higher makes it lag (obviously), i dont know if its the game or just my computer.

My specs

intel core i5-2410M, 2.3 GHz

6 GB ram

64 bit

Geforce GT 540 M cuda 1GB

I dont know too much about this stuff but would i need to have anything better to run at a higher setting? Any help is appreciated =D

Looks like your running it on a laptop if I'm not mistaken

The 540m isn't meant for high-end gaming (it's middle end tech), and benchmarks show it playing on low at slightly over 30fps, with every increase in graphics dropping the FPS

If you haven't already, disable your anti aliasing. Otherwise, you're probably going to be playing with those settings from this machine

These "increased performance" mods didn't do anything for me. Likely made it worse. They remind me of those ridiculous apps for DOS back in the day that claimed to increase RAM. I imagine it works for some, but not most. You could just as easily increase performance by changing your settings. Edited by chrismgtis
