michaelcuff
I had a sager for the past three or four years now and it did well, however the mother board has burnt out twice now and I'm not sure I want to fix it again just so it can break... agaim! So I'm thinking of find something newer. I mostly play starcraft 2 and modded skyrim, also I had a few emulators. I'll be going to college here pretty soon. I do have a budget however and I was hoping to find the best bang for my buck at around $800 to 1k. I'm far from knowledgeable about laptops and was hoping someone could help me out a little? Many thanks to any assistance!!
FMod
Not quite enough info. Does portability matter? Running on battery? What screen size do you plan for? If you aren't sure - do you plug it into a TV or play on the screen as is?
michaelcuff
Sorry for the lack of info.Im not to particular about screen size and battery life, I'll be pluged in almost everywhere I'll be using it. I will be using it for school as well but again, I can't a college with out power outlets. Im considering this one here but just wasn't to sure about the processor? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01FG9XS4E?th=1&psc=1#featureBulletsAndDetailBullets_secondary_view_div_1469302150321
FMod
I guess it's OK.The 970M is a good card, probably can't get it for any less. I notice though that you're linking to a $1,100 laptop. If you plan on using it standalone and without too much running around with it, it might be worth it to trade up to a 17" screen. You still want at least a 960M card. This can be a good option:https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GS72-Stealth-042-NOTEBOOK-i7-6700HQ/dp/B01AC40P76 You get extra screen space and SSD+HDD storage, the extra RAM and CPU clock don't hurt, and the 965M is close enough to the 970M. Graphics settings compromises are rarely visible on laptop screens, so the GPU is less critical than on a desktop. Alternatively one of these two, which go for under $1k at the cost of some further graphics power compromise (still not likely to matter, as the 960M is very sufficient for your purposes):https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GL72-6QF-405-NOTEBOOK-i7-6700HQ/dp/B01AC40ODQhttps://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-17-3-Inch-Gaming-DDR4-SDRAM-Windows/dp/B014MIC1EI
