JPMalvineous
I've been playing Skyrim for a good while as an archery-heavy character, and something that has really gotten on my nerves is the fact that the game seems to apply some sort of LoD to all AI entities wherein, past a certain distance, their normal collisions are no longer loaded into the world. That is, all ranged attacks cannot interact with them and will pass right through them (but they still have AI and will react to the projectile, and can still be hurt by melee attacks and seemingly AoE damage past that range). I've shot at enemies at long ranges and watched arrows and spells pass through them, using the fov command to zoom in and confirm it. Spells like frostbite also do not affect them past that range, as I have used fury on a bandit barely within range only to watch him go at it with a mage and an archer further off whose frostbite and arrows passed through him and did nothing, allowing him to kill them both without taking any damage despite the mage being a tougher bandit type. I don't have a big problem with this sort of LoD in principle, but the issue is that the distance at which their normal collision load out isn't actually very far (feels like no more than 200-300 feet in the best cases), and is close enough that you can visibly watch their normal model "load in" when you creep toward them while zoomed in and see their feet suddenly lower slightly as though they were floating previously (the effect being particularly noticeable with multiple enemies lined up away from you). This can create some really frustrating situations for me as an archer. So, my question is, does anyone know a way to remedy this? Do any of the known .ini tweaks control the parameters of this such that I could increase the distance at which enemies have their full collisions loaded in? I would much appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction on this. EDIT - Just to be clear, I put this in this forum instead of the requests forum because this is something I plan to mod myself if someone can tell me how. JPMalvineous
I've done a lot more googling around and found demonstrating the issue, and giving the .ini tweak to get fix it in the description. Just wanted to post this to close the topic out and give further documentation on this issue and fix, as I haven't been able to find a lot out there on it.
