brfritos
I was wondering this, do mods can cause old bugs solved by patches to reappear again?I'm asking this because some of them appeared again in my recently FNV install.I only have a handfull of them loaded, not 300 hundred or something.[X] FalloutNV.esm[X] CaravanPack.esm[X] ClassicPack.esm[X] MercenaryPack.esm[X] TribalPack.esm[X] DeadMoney.esm[X] HonestHearts.esm[X] OldWorldBlues.esm[X] LonesomeRoad.esm[X] GunRunnersArsenal.esm[X] NevadaSkies.esm[X] NevadaSkies - Ultimate DLC Edition.esp[X] Vurt's WFO.esp[X] CowboyRepeaterFix.esp[X] TravelingMerchantFix.esp[X] MiscItemIconsNV.esp[X] VendorBulkBuyFixer.esp[X] Easy Unlocking and Easy Hacking.esp[X] no-faction-warning.esp[X] pipboyx6.esp[X] ShaddapYaBleedinTribal.esp[X] MakHealOther.esp[X] HomeCooking.esp[X] Too Many Quest Markers - Main.esp[X] jsawyer.espBesides that I have some textures enhancements: NMC's textures, some Paco Bueno's textures, Millenia weapons, Complete Vault Girl Interface, Wasteland clothing Hires retexture, High Resolution Newspapers and HI-RES Chems and Health Re-Texture.And that's it, all of these mods are simply textures replacers, they don't even add a esp or esm.Recently I reinstalled FNV, is the Steam version, Ultimate Edition.Everything was fine until I started to have the famous crash near Wolfhorn Ranch when passing near the bridge, something I hadn't in a long time since patch 1.1.Then I also started to have the famous bug with Ranger Andy, when if you talk to him and he teach you the ranger's move, he doesn't speak or interact and the game stop responding if you talk to him again. This bug was solved back in the day after patch 1.2.0.31x.I discovered the problem was being caused by a mod.It was a retexture of a brahmin, but instead of simply being a texture, it also required a esp to be loaded. After I disabled the mod in the load order... THE PROBLEMS DISAPPEARED!Everything runs normal now, the game doesn't crash near Wolfhorn and I'm able to talk with Ranger Andy even without Raul being present. The mod is fairly new BTW, it started in 2015 and is being maintained until this day, is the Brahmin Variant Redux, by Lexx.http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58871/?Now I can't finish Raul Old Ghoul School quest, the final dialog doesn't trigger. So mods can cause old bugs to reappear or Am I imagining things? dubiousintent
Short answer: Yes, it's possible, but mostly avoidable. More complete answer: I notice from your list of mods that you do not have any form of "merged" or "bashed" patch file. This means the last mod to "touch" on a record will win any conflicts with other mods, in their entirety. Which in turns mean it is the "all or nothing" winner. The earlier mod "loses" completely as if it's version of the record were not present, even those fields in the record it doesn't have in conflict with the later mod. That MIGHT cause a "fix" applied by an earlier loading mod to be ignored, in effect reverting to bugged behavior. However, it would require the winning mod to be touching the record with the bug. It's less "reappear" than "reverting the fix", but only if the mod in question happens to affect the record in question. Sorting the "load order" is crucial in determining these "gross winners". The "bug" might disappear with a different "load order". The purpose of the "merged/bashed" patch file is to allow conflict resolution to occur down at the "field" level of each record, so non-conflicting field changes to a record from other "losing" mods still succeed. It's a more finely grained level of resolution, enabling "fixes" and alterations to remain unless explicitly altered. See S.T.E.P. Merging Plugins Guide which covers both approaches. (Use of "Mod Organizer" is not required.) Use the Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide to quickly get functional with "Wrye Flash", which produces the "bashed patch"; which I think is the easier approach for a novice modder. Or the mod might be making the same mistake that the developers caught and corrected later in a patch. -Dubious- Edited July 26, 2016 by dubiousintent
brfritos
Oh my god, you are right!I completely forgot to create a merged patch, something I had it when FNV was installed and working like a charm. Thanks for reminde me. Edited July 25, 2016 by brfritos
