Warchilde30
I just started playing Skyrim on the PC (only way to play!) with the 360 controller but am confused about the D pad hotkeys. When I hit the D pad it opens up the "favorites" list and then I have to select the weapon/spell manually. Is there a way to actually "hotkey" a weapon on the 360 controller? I hate having to open a menu when in combat! Please help!!
XxHYDROZILLAxX
Yes, there are problems with this. There are certain button reconfigurations that wont even allow you to favorite weapons or armor with your assigned buttons. As for your problem, you can assign 2 hotkey favorites: via left or right on the D-Pad. To do this hit up on the D-Pad to bring up the favorites menu, scroll to your desired hotkey choice and hold down LEFT or RIGHT on the D-Pad for about 2 seconds. You will see a 1 or 2 appear next to that "favorite". You should be able to figure it out from there.

Thanks man, thanks. I concur - I did not know this! Seeing as V-sync of death has the ever reliable effect of slowing down mouse-movement (and possibly causing a bizarre CTD as well), i've been sticking with the gamepad, which is certainly more comfortable (feet up!) Thanks man, thanks. Have to turn down my enthusiasm a bit - i dont get it. Why does it mess up with my dual wielded weapons? Once i use that one gets removed from the favorites list. Some detailed explanation of this anywhere? (Should i really take a look into the manual? ^^) In addition to being buggy it also would be stupid if it at least worked as it should. Sometimes i do not understand the developers of such a game. I mean i get the train of thought now - "Were developing it to work with the console gamepads. Oh, theres a lot of stuff in the menu - lets get a quickselection menu for favorites with D-pad up/down. Hmm.. Still left and right unassigned. Some players might want hotkeys - lets do that on left and right." At first reading your post i thought i get two additional favorite menus - No. =( If you are optimistic you would see that as 2 bonus hotkeys. If you are me you see: - Just enough buttons to become completely annoyed by the fact you will never be able to hotkey all of the important stuff with just 2 buttons. I dont want your two cents for charity, Bethesda.- 2 buttons wasted for nothing useful- 4 buttons that could otherwise have been buttons for four of those top down selection menus, which is now only one. Each direction opens one separate top-down selection menu - wouldnt that be much cooler? If you really cant do without this hotkey function - how about implementing both? In the options each D-Pad direction can be switched between its favorite list and hotkey mode (which can be assigned in the inventory screen). Is that too confusing for the average console player? Too bad, i have another ingenious idea: Pressing 2 buttons at the same time effectively doubles the number of uses! Whats this left upper shoulder button doing? Why isnt it doing anything??? Not enough with wasting buttons by assigning useless features in a game that theoretically cant have too much of them - no, we just leave another one completely unused. -.- How about the D-Pad selects 4 different skills/weapons and LB + D-PAD opens one of the four favorite menus? I can understand when you try to design a game specially suited for consoles and the PC version is not optimized in comparison. But my suggestions make at least four flexible quick menus for each direction. Plus four hotkeys. Everything easy to realize on a XBOX360 gamepad. What did we get? Essentially one menu button and two hotkeys. One button on the pad completely unused. No customization at all possible. Plus: It doesnt work right. How can this pass the first beta tests? This just seems so stupid. *edit* posted that in the official forums as well - maybe it will creep its way up to those that matter somehow...
