No, I mean the entire empire, Unless the player is a Nord, they have no right to be a High King of Skyrim, a quest to find a candidate that fits the bill of a High King would be a good tie-in because once the Civil war is over, Ulfric no longer serves a purpose, and the world is left without 3 Jarls to govern the cities. But yeah, this is a mod for the Blades, the overaching story of the Empire can be left out for another mod, but still should have some kind of tie-in, a few lines of dialogue just to leave the issue open would work, then when/if the rest of the idea comes to pass, we have the tie-in all ready.

I would like to see weapons and shields wear out with use, and even losing effectiveness become useless, if not reset periodically. This probably occurs also in Skyrim. But I wish that some damage was visible. for example, it would be fun to watch the shield fender of my opponent, after a particularly powerful blow to my character. Or see my sword, well-worn, break or shatter when hitting the shield of my opponent. How these are details that make all the difference in immersion.

Weapon and armor durability was removed, it's just a tedious and annoying process to have to constantly repair your items. I didn't like it in Oblivion, I'm glad they took it out.

I think seeing impact marks on enemy armor would be cool. Personally, I really prefer the Skyrim no-repair arms and armor to that of Oblivion, where I would often find my sword practically useless and me out of hammers. However, I'm sure a lot of people agree with you Alexaxe and you should go ahead and post that mod request as a separate topic - it doesn't really seem to fit in with the Reforging the Blades mod we're currently tossing around ideas for.

Awesome ideas.

Just a few ideas I have:

Spread out the "recruit" quests because they can have vital information about thalmor locations or been seen killing a heep of bears etc. etc. and It would be nice if it would slowly grow into the base and not just "BAM you got all the recruits now kill thalmor and dragons."

And as Logiwink said they would need mages, smiths, healers, alchemists as well as warriors. This is the NEW blades.

I don't think the blades should take sides in the war as they are quite conflicted about both sides, they can't support the empire but are sworn to protect it.

Also recruiting dragons could be quite hard seeing as they won't even wanna keep Paarthurnax alive dispite him helping to defeat Alduin. But yeah Paarthurnax helping the blades I can see as a way for him to prove his changed ways.A

And Paarthurnax might need help with something/someone and asks the player for help who directs him to the blades perhaps?

And for the rogue graybeard, how about you hear about one from the blades? (Aka recruit quest?) One that was kicked out from High Hrothgar because of something.

Begin with the blades base, recruit quests and item fetching quests I'd say.

Work on the bloodline paarthurnax and dragonborn high king later?

Arriz - good stuff.

I think I'd like to play it non-lineal with as many of the quests as possible. One of the things I loved about Mass Effect 2 was that you could do the missions in almost any order you liked. I envision something similar for the recruit quests, i.e. there would be maybe 6 different people you could recruit in any order. After recruiting 2 you'd trigger a larger plot quest (something like - hey we found this Thalmor agent go take him out or turn him, etc) then another after you'd recruited four (Go clear this Thalmor stronghold) and another one or two quests unlock after you've got all 6 recruits (defend Sky Haven temple versus Thalmor assault).

Also, I really like the idea of a rogue Graybeard who maybe left Hrothgar to try and make a difference.

What do you guys think about the Blades acting to support the worship of Talos by giving support to Talos priests, clearing out old temples, recovering artifacts of Talos. In Oblivion the Blades were associated with The Order of Talos, which is housed at Weynon Priory. So the Blades moving into a religion role seems like one viable future for the blades.

So the choices for where to take the Blades could be:

1) Take the fight to the Thalmor

2) Defend the Worship of Talos and recover His Relics

3) Set out to systematically wipe out all the Dragons with named dragon quests, hunt down dragon priests, etc.

Three different branches to the quest line would hopefully add replay-ability.

The Blades ARE the Order of Talos. It's where new recruits start before becoming full members, and where the retired Blades go when their service time is over.

Finding artifacts of Talos is a good idea, there are a few lost shrines I've found while exploring that could be used again.

The Blades will indirectly support the war in helping bring back the worship of Talos. And recruiting dragons can work

As far as Paarthurnax is concerned, I think we should kill him at first, to absorb his soul, to gain an insight into what he did during the Dragon Wars, and what he's done since and we can then use that to clear his name, opening the way for more Dragons to become our allies. We can then find a way to release the Dragon souls we absorb back into that dragons body. We could gain insight into that dragon that can't be gotten by simply speaking with them,

We shouldn't wipe out all dragons, that would just prove the Greybeards point, that the Blades are just genocidal barbarians who will never listen to whats right or wrong. The dragons that attack villages, and cities are the ones who should be killed, but the ones who just sit atop the mountains can be left alone, or pulled into the service of the Dragonborn, who is in essence, a Dov, just in a mortal form.

Once we are built up enough, have some more allies, both mortal and Dov (in my opinion), we should be able to take the fight to the Thalmor, at least in Skyrim, we can branch out to Hammerfell next where the resistance is still going strong, then the other provinces, culminating with an attack in Valenwood on their leadership.

We could do all three branches, but could choose to focus on one branch, or two if we choose.
