Lost 2 hours of saves

I dont know what just happened, but ever since Skyrim automatically updated itself via Steam today I have had troubles with the game.

For the first time today I started getting having the game freeze when loading a save game or when in-game switching between an indoor cell or outdoor cell or vice versa - basically whenever one of those Skyrim load screens comes up. It would just sit there... forever! I have to End Task on Skyrim and then retry.

Well, been doing that about 4 times today but it hasnt been too bad because I would always just reload and continue with relatively no progress lost, but now the 5th time is a killer. I got the freeze, End Tasked and then restarted the game. I click CONTINUE expecting to be where I left off... but I end up loading a save about 2 hours prior to my crash! I had plenty of autosaves, quicksaves and some manual saves in that time, yet none of them show up in the savegames! What the hell is going on here? There is nothing worse than losing saves like this! I have completely lost the motivation to play now, I dont want to repeat all that!

Is there anything I can try to recover my saves?

Probably has something to do with it, but after the last crash Steam also closed and I need to reopen it, when I did it threw some sort of error, and then needed to update itself which showed this progress bar. But then it automatically relogged me in so I didnt think much of it...

Please tell me there is something I can do

Same thing happened to me a week ago, all my save games was gone once i did get the game running again, not just auto/quick saves. That was 85-90 hours of game time i lost there, and i found no fixes, nor did steam/besh come back to me about that in my mailes :(

Holy crap that's terrible!!

How could stuff like this even happen? They actually have code somewhere that deletes savegames? WHY?!

In your case it could have been that during uninstall/reinstall it deleted your entire savegames folder, so that situation, while far more devastating, is a bit easier to explain.

But how to explain select savegames being deleted, while others remain? Only thing I can think of is that for some reason, after I crashed and restarted the game during my two-hour session I lost, it possibly created some new save games folder and started saving there, then upon restart the last time it deleted that entire folder. But then that still doesn't make sense because I was able to continue my previous games. It's so bizarre!!
