Disoblige
I think the hot key system should be use "sets" kind of like pressing W in Diablo 2. 1, 2, 3, etc would activate a corresponding set that you could assign whatever weapons, spells, armour, etc that you want. This would let the player switch quickly between playstyles. The way the hotkeys are set up now is a really weak system that requires players to go into the inventory way too often.yes that is also a decent idea. i agree with you.. players that use multiple style of weapons (like myself) would benefit from this. In addition to the ideas already mentioned I would propose that the actual hotkey slots have 2 'sub slots' if desired - left hand and right hand (if applicable to the items). The idea here is 1 hotkey press could swap your left and right hand. Beyond this I would really like to see 'next weapon' and 'previous weapon' key binding commands which could be applied to the mouse wheel. The idea is that if you say next weapon and you are currently kitted with a weapon set bound to 1 and your next binding that is a weapon set is on 4, then when you next weapon it will be as if you are hitting 4. Likewise a previous weapon would go backwards. I tend to setup what I want to use and then use the mwheel in real time to scroll through the options I have designated..., think about Bethesda's favorites menu now and think how vexing it is for someone who usually switches weapons with a mouse wheel having to now open that blasted menu - oh and please don't mention the favorites menu key bindings cause those things are broken, especially if your dual wielding the same weapon stack. scrolling through hotkeys is also a good addition. +1 Edited November 25, 2011 by Disoblige

I'm looking for something like this too. It takes way too many keypresses to swap weapons and spells in combat. It's fine if you don't mind pausing the game to go into your favorites and select/deselect what you want, but that's just way too damned slow for me. It's like playing Baldur's Gate back in the day where you would constantly be hitting the space bar to set up the actions for your group, then hitting it again when they've completed them. Nice for a tactical 3DI game, not for an FPS though. I'd like weapon sets so I always know what will be loading up, which hand it will be loading to, and so I can quickly change to a completely separate set with a single keypress. Keys 1-8 just aren't enough when either hand is being treated independently. With the amount of different weapon configurations multiplied by the number of in-combat spells there are, 8 hotkeys is nowhere near enough without semi-continuous game pausing. Hotkeying companion commands would also be a godsend, especially without the inane dialog feedback. Numpad 1 = WAIT; Numpad 2 = FOLLOW; Numpad 3 = TRADE; Numpad 4: STFU AND DO WHAT YOU'RE TOLD; etc.
topeira
I wouldnt want any more HUD in my game so i wouldnt use a mod like this, but i would love if the hotkey would be like - hold 1 and LMB to equip in left hand. Hold 1+RMB to equip in right hand. Simple. If i use shield (hotkey no.5) and sword (hotkey no.2) and want to switch my sword with flames (No.3) than i need to press: 3,3,5. Using my idea i would jus hold 3+RMB. Easier. Another way of doing that, though less flexible - Equip weapons in both hands (say sword and shield) and hold 1. Now u have a shield+sword combo set to 1. Now equip flames And healing and hold 2 so save that combo to hotkey 2. Now u can quickly switch between 8 combos u like using. mysticme
I would be interested in something like this as well. Pausing the game to hunt around in my inventory or favorites is too much trouble. I am used to games such as Everquest or WoW where the toolbar allows a point and click to drink a potion or equip weapons. I really hope someone can come up with something , thanks
