Mystais
As far as I have found so far, followers remain with the kill levels they had when you discovered them. Would be nice if they auto-leveled with you as you leveled. Perhaps there could even be a pop-up that would show what skills improved on the follower when they leveled or even a way to set skillset priorities for them (melee, ranged, magic, etc). I wouldn't wonder if they didn't lvl up correctly, as you say- they just seem to be way less powerful than mediocre opponents on a high lvl, and can hardly compare to them even if they wear a powerfully enchanted set of armory. Is there a way to check their lvls/skill progress in game?If you have a point, I will incorporate the request here, if you don't mind.regards

Lydia/Faendal will be the weakest companions, but if you wait until you've leveled to max and then hire some of the optional followers they will be scaled to whatever you are. A level 81 follower is possible, who can easily tank Giants/Dragons/Mammoth's." There are other discussions on this as well, just scattered about. Feel free to include this. trevorlahey
Until the CK is released, you can also use the console to get around this issue. Open the console and select the follower, then type "disable." The character should vanish. Without clicking anything else, type "enable" and they will respawn at your level. I haven't tested if they retain any custom equipment you might give them, but I would guess not. Still, this is a pretty good way to keep the companions on your level until the CK becomes available. Apparently that in itself is not sufficient though. You also have to dismiss them first and then use the disable/enable as they are walking away and then talk to them again to have them re-follow before they walk off... supposedly. My testing was all done on companions I had already dismissed, and it worked fine. I didn't try with an active follower. In fact, I could see it potentially bugging out the whole follower system if this was done to an active companion. So, yes, make sure to only use the "disable" "enable" code on a companion who is not currently following you.

What console command are you using to check their stats/skills? Getavinfo?
trevorlahey
I actually didn't check their stats/skills at all, and don't even know how to. My tests were much cruder than that. Hunted down companions that were on very low levels (Lydia, Faendal, Uthgerd) and saw how long it took to kill them. 3-4 hits killed them all before I did the code, then it took 12-15 hits after I did the code. Don't know how to check beyond that, but it seemed like a pretty solid indication that they had leveled up.
trevorlahey
Okay, just went ahead and checked stats with getavinfo. Lydia, who I had first recruited at maybe level 5, has 75 in one-handed and 70 in heavy armor, with me at level 26.
