PC Build Review for Skyrim with S.T.E.P / ENB

Recommended Posts

I am configuring a new pc build and would just like to get some thoughts on it before purchasing. I am looking to play Skyrim with S.T.E.P installed along with an ENB (probably RealVision). Would the specs below be sufficient for at least 30 - 40 fps?

NZXT Phantom 410 Performance Mid Tower Case
500W FSP Quiet Power Supply - Bronz 80 Plus
GIGABYTE GA-Z170-Gaming K3 Motherboard
Intel® Core™ i5-6600K Quad Core Processor (Skylake,3.5GHz-3.9GHz Turbo, 6MB Cache)
Cooler Master Hyper 103 CPU Cooler
16GB 3000MHz DDR4 Memory (2x8GB) Dual Kit - Corsair
8GB GeForce® GTX 1070 Graphics Card
250GB Samsung 750 EVO, 2.5" SSD
2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA III 6GB/s 7200rpm 64MB Cache 8ms NCQ
Any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure what market you are in but everything looks okay other than the power supply is not in the light side

you need 600 to 650 watts minimum to give you proper overhead so you don't tax the life of the power supply.

Fortran source, are not known for being the most reliable or doing a good job in controlling the rail voltages

I would recommend either a Seasonic or XFX they are both high quality

Memory is memory and having faster memory means zero because of the nature of the Intel memory controller that is integrated in the CPU.

You get a platform level of performance with Intel adding various different kinds of memory just cost money and yields zero performance. There are numerous reviews in various tech magazines that verify this to be true.

I think Skyrim would perform well with those specs as long as you're not playing it in 4K resolution. And like Reynard, I'm questioning the choice of PSU. But that's only because I've never heard of it before. I don't have a problem with the wattage because I'm looking at a slightly more powerful setup and according to PCPartPicker, the highest wattage for that is a whopping 379W. I would go with an EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2. And RAM with a lower clock speed, as Reynard said again, provides next to no performance gains. I wouldn't go any faster than DDR4-2400 and save some money.
