calyps
I just have to leave my follower behind a lot of the time or I can never score a backstab, she alerts everyone of her presence. I feel like followers should be able to match the player for sneaking at all times, otherwise they are a liability.
DeadxPixels
This is kinda realistic, not everyone knows how to sneak, so the sneakiest (you) would have to tell her "Wait here.." and go clear the area but you can try opening console, clicking the npc companion and typing "advskill sneak 200000 " Edited November 22, 2011 by DeadxPixels

I would train them myself to creep like a silent mouse-fart but that's not an option. The alternative would be a "follower stay" button (the conversation menu sucks and is tedious) so I could toggle them to stay, then call them back to me with the click of a button. GileadMaerlyn
"Kinda realisitc"? At the end of the thieve's guild quest, you do a dungeon with two of the best thieves of the guild, masters at stealth. They're saying "don't make any noise" every room, and then, they see 10 ennemies in a room, they get out of stealth and charge them, screaming, and die stupidly while I waste a lot of arrows because I have to 3-shot ennemies I would have one-shot normally. Hopefully, they're essential, so never really die. But that's the same with every companion, no matter what their stealth is. And of course, when there's a trap they go right in it, and I can't defuse them all, like pressure plates, for instance.

They stayed in stealth as I did, waiting for me to attack. Well, I do remember Karliah triggering a bear trap once, which is stupid for her, but at least she stayed clear of the motion traps (spinning blades) I did say "kinda" though. I also did not have this problem with the thieves guild mission. They pretty much stayed in stealth (and were not detected). My problem is regular followers who follow 2 feet behind you and apparently play a drum. I would love a "followers avoid traps" mod. I walk around a pressure plate then get hit by the trap because someone's too stupid to do the same. So annoying.

Lol, well again you could try the console, click the person type " addperk 5820C " It might not work, I don't know if npc's can have perks, but if they can that will give them the Light Foot perk. GileadMaerlyn
o.OI didn't have any of these problems. They stayed in stealth as I did, waiting for me to attack. Well, that's because of my fighting style, then, as a stealth archer.I fire an arrow, they're looking for me, they don't find me, I'm back to the lowest level of detection, I fire another arrow, etc... I can clear a room without being seen. With them, I fire an arrow, one ennemy down, we're still unseen... "YAAAAAHH!!!!" They charge. Total chaos, with no stealth possible.. I still win, but man, why did they do that? They could kill our ennemies stealthily, like I try to do, like the man we're pursuing does...
DeadxPixels
Oh I know what you mean then. I play the same way. I remember the one room with the giant centurion thing and about 6 falmers, yeah, there's no stealthing that with the other Nightingales.. A 'Hold fire' command would be great. Or "stealth kills only". Fallout had those kind of options: melee/range, attack/defend/my target(?) I do understand what you guys are saying
