Where are my Data folders?

I install Skyrim, I go to my "Data" folder, and all I see are Bethesda Software Archives for everything (Music, Textures, etc), instead of simple folders like Oblivion of Fallout. How can I work with this? I can open them up just fine in Fallout NV MM, and I can even extract them as well, but I cant put anything back in (Say, a new sbitsandpices.dds texture). Is there a program that allows me to open these up and play around with them like regular folders?

Heeeeeeelp, please.

You can manually create the folder directory yourself. As long as they are named correctly, the game will know where to find your file. You cannot repack new textures into the .bsa files.

I am a bit confused about one thing you mentioned. Oblivion and Fallout also use .bsa files to store their content, so I'm not sure what you were trying to say here:

instead of simple folders like Oblivion of Fallout

EDIT: I misread your question at first, so I changed my answer.

You need to unzip those .bsa files. You can use the BSA Unpackers listed here: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/BSA_Unpackers

Well, those titles also have the folders (Textures, Meshes, Music, etc) laying around unzipped in the Data folder. Skyrim dosent seem to like that. Hmmmmm...If I create those folders and unzip the BSA into the respective ones like Oblivion seems to...BRB, gotta get to work.

The textures and models are packed into a bsa.-file of their own.

You have to unpack each BSA-file and you will have the textures and models.

Oblivion used bsa.-files too.

Right. Soooo how do I zip them back up into BSA's? (i.e; I put in some new textures, so I want to zip up the files into a new "Textures" BSA)

A cool thing is, you don't have to pack them back. Just create the folder structure.

Like, data/texture/armor/steel/m or data/textures/weapons/ebony

Data folder-> texture folder-> armor folder-> steel folder-> m folder (male)

And if you no longer want the different textures, just delete these folders

I recommend FOMM's bsa browser for this.

I feel like I do in Zelda games, where I am constantly running around looking for that damn solution, only to figure out its the most stupidly simple thing on Earth.

Thank you!
