My first Firelance!!

I've played through this game at least four or five times. By played through I mean that I did the main quest and a few of the DLC's, but never got close to going everywhere and doing everything. I'd always had a fantasy about finding all the unique weapons, but once I read the Prima guide and saw how many there were (and some of the really evil s*it you have to do to get some of them) I never really tried. However, I'd always wanted the Firelance because I'd read somewhere that it offered the highest damage for a one-handed weapon. Don't know if that's true, but it's what I remember!

 

Yesterday, while I was searching for a way to sneak up on the Cliffside Shacks I heard an explosion and saw Alien Power Cells rain down around me. I got EXCITED. I thought: "Ok, ok, calm down, breathe, write down your co-ordinates so you can fast travel to Vault 101, pick up Dogmeat and bring him back to find the weapon." First I decided to pick up all the Alien Power Cells since they're nice and bright and easy to see. In the process, I found it, and due a hilarious and VERY frequently encountered game glitch, it was hovering in mid-air, which seemed appropriate for a blaster from the stars.

 

Now I can take down Super Mutant Overlords in one shot while setting them on fire! Time to select Pyromaniac another time or two when I level up! :biggrin:

I set up a modded install on a friends computer once (FWE, PB, MMM, etc.) and guided him through the start of the game to Megaton and to Moira's quest to fetch food from the Super Duper Mart. As he came up to the building I recounted the tale about how the game generated a Giant Radscorpion at the random spawn point in front of the store once and suddenly there was a HUGE explosion as he went around the side of the building toward the front. He stopped before rounding the corner, and a raider came around to shoot him with the firelance. In all the hours and hours I had put into the game I had never triggered the random event with the ship crashing, and my friend got it on his first trip to the supermarket. I was dumbfounded. He didn't survive the encounter with that raider(obviously), so we never even got to see the crashed ship or anything.

Wow! A Raider with a Firelance sounds like a pretty bad*ss foe, especially that early in the game! I don't believe that there's any wreckage associated with this event. I heard an explosion, but the only thing that rained down from the sky was the Firelance and a heaping helping of Alien Power Cells. I'd guess about two dozen. I believe the only crashed ship you get to see is the one connected with Mothership Zeta, and it only remains on the ground until you get beamed up. After that, you never see it again.

The only play through that I came close to the firelance was when I was using Wasteland Travelers, and the explosion happened over a group of travelers a ways from me. So I meet up with them and lo and behold, one is carrying it.
