dsfargeg
Here is the article in question: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Skyrim-Morrowind-Oblivion-Elder-Scrolls-Steam,14068.htmlI'm by no means a modding expert, but don't mods like OBGE and OBSE alter how the game executes? Does that mean that skyrim can no longer support mods like obse with the new steam update? What does that mean now that skyrim is locked in terms of script extenders? Pronam
No, OBSE and OBGE worked fine on the steam version and the SKSE team already confirmed they'll not have any issues with this update. The script extenders run in the memory. Direct2Drive's and Impulse's encrypted exe's are the ones that makes things impossible, not steam. The only change since the patch is that you need still steam to run the game after activation, which is a sad thing I guess but it doesn't provide any other issues. It makes things more complex, not impossible.

runicNomad
Its fairly asinine the way they make me route through steam and over time there will be options to run it directly once they are done with their few official patches and MODding community is making their own to fix problems they have left. I will never understand DRM to be honest because hackers and crackers are always going to find a way and DRM upfront punishes those who buy the game legit. I am OCD when it comes to monitoring services and programs running on my machine and anything that takes even the slightest bit of CPU or memory gets dumped unless its essential. Running a program to run another program ultimately causing a shell situation is complex and uses more resources then need be. Thank you to all those who will remedy this problem in the future. The Model for distribution of Media these days is horribad with the eventual non ownership of physical copies running on another machine elsewhereyet even then someone will reverse engineer it and we will have the copies... anyway...
