sidXIII
I am really new to the whole modding scene, having just downloaded my first mod last week. I am already interested in trying my hand at doing some retextures on some of the srmor and mabey some weapons as well. AS far as the armor goes i was looking into making some parts of it transparent on somthing like the iron curassis, to give the look of peicemail instead of fullplate, but im not sure how to go about doing this. I have been looking for some topics on this subject but havent had much luck yet so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if its not too much trouble if you post anythinghelping me out i woulg really appreciate pictures cause im more of a visiual person, but if not i guesss ill have to make do  . Another thing I have been wondering is how I go about relaoding the new textures into the game. I have done some work on a sword and i took a look at it on NIFScope and it looked good but i dont have a clue as how im to reincorperate it into the game. Like I said any help would be greatly appreciated. :thanks:
SickleYield
Here is a tutorial section on getting your new item into the game: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...d_Into_the_Game This web site has lots of other useful tutorials, too. Here is one that talks more about just models and textures: http://obliviontextures.wetpaint.com/?t=anon As for the transparency thing - In Oblivion, armor pieces replace body pieces. This means that there is nothing behind the cuirass, so if you make it transparent there will be nothing there. In order to add transparency you will have do three things: 1. Copy a body part into the .nif in NifSkope.2. Make a new texture showing the transparent bits. Assign it to the .nif.3. Add a nialphaproperty into each part (each nitrishape) of the .nif in NifSkope. Honestly this may not work even then, since most armor meshes in Oblivion clip badly with body parts. They were made to replace, not overlap them, so the original developers didn't bother with it. True transparent items usually require editing the mesh or making a new one (a process also covered on those sites I linked to above). IMO retexes are a good start to modding and a good way to learn your way around the CS before you get into the modeling. It's good to have both skills if you can. I at least am busier than a one-legged man in a, um, let's just say I'm very busy. :D Good luck!
novintfalcon
Thank you for the information, SickleYield. Since I am new to modding, I was hoping to jump in and ask another question. We are looking to create a mod for Oblivion that allows users to play with our 3D touch controller, called the Novint Falcon (www.novint.com). The Falcon allows you to feel realistic sensations of weight, texture, and physics when playing enabled games. Currently, we have a Half-Life 2 mod that achieves this - it allows users to play the full game using the Falcon in place of the standard mouse. The users are able to feel the weight and recoil of weapons, the impacts of enemy attacks, environmental explosions and effects, the sensation of piloting vehicles over terrain, and they are able to lift objects around them and feel their heft. In order to create the HL2 mod, we needed a certain level of access to the game, essentially physics-level access. This allowed us to feed the Falcon all of the existing physics information already in the game. Based on your experience and knowledge, do you think Oblivion would allow us enough access to accomplish the same with a mod? Thank you for your help. best.J
Abramul
Your best bet would probably be to ask the people who're responsible for OBSE. You could also try contacting Bethesda directly. Although I wouldn't expect anything to come of that, if you can convince them it's a good enough selling point, who knows?
