Downloaded presets crash my game.

Hi!

So, basically I can't slide the slider past default presets. My game will crash on every attempt. Here's the Mod page. I have all the supporting mods and I know about the chargen compiler. But it's just that if a preset overrides a default one it works fine but if it were to add a preset my game dies a silent death.

Or maybe I'm just overlooking something...I just hope someone could help me fix this annoying problem.

Hey there, Baboontje;

I've had that happen. For me, it's always been as a result of a bad chargenmorphcfg.xml. I'd forget that I have to re-compile it after adding or removing a facemorph mod, or forget to track down one of the individual .xml's for some mod I was planning to keep.

Remember, the game only recognizes ONE cgmc.xml, and if it includes any pointers to non-existent resources, well... you know what can happen!

I think that may be the case, because I also have some metallic faces and non-existent hair here and there. But the thing is....I have no idea how that would happen. I never removed a mod, only added. So even if I have a clue of what's the cause, I'm still at a loss as for fixing it. Compiling a chargen with a program is a lot less hard than actually snooping around in the file itself.

Here's what I do:

NOTE1: I keep the "original" copies of all my mods in a totally separate folder, so I can "start from scratch" when I need to.

NOTE2: I don't use any mods that require special texture files (JB's, Dracomies, etc.) to be installed. They're not a bad thing, I just don't use them.

1. Make sure I have the author's cgmc.xml file for each mod. ("Tucked Hair" is always a gotcha', since she didn't include it in an archive... It's a separate d/l.)

2. Remove ALL facemorph mods from my \override folder.

3. Delete the cgmc.xml file that the complier created for me.

4. Place "vanilla" copies of all morphs mods back in the \override folder (I use a separate sub-folder for each \override mod, so I can easily keep track of what's there and move them in-and-out quickly.)

5. Re-Run the Compiler.

Works every time!

  • 2 weeks later...

(Sorry for the late response, busy week x) )

Great, I'll go and try that out. Not looking forward to it, though. It means I have to download every mod I have all over again. I do have an extra folder which contains a number of mods, but that is because I used that folder to transfer the mods from the old laptop to the new one. So I'm pretty sure those aren't clean mods.

But thanks for your help. :)

Edit: After rereading my post I came to the realisation that that might be the problem. Copying the mods from the previous laptop to the new one....Hmmm didn't think of that before since that has been a while ago.
