rawr22 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I've completed the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests and want to start the Companion quest line but every time I enter Jorrvaskr for the first time it starts the fist fight cut scene only to have everyone draw swards and attack me. I have never spoken to or attacked the companions before, I have no bounty in Whiterun, and I'm entering during the day with no weapons drawn. I've tried yielding, it makes no difference. Anyone have any idea why this is or how to change it?
Pilgrym Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) Although i've not completed the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests, i've experienced a similiar issue in Whiterun in Dragonsreach. For some kind of reason, after i entered Dragonsreach and approached the Jarl and his followers, all NPCs in that room immediately drew their weapons and started to attack me. .) I hadn't drawn my weapons, or attacked anyone in Whiterun before (the guards outside of Dragonsreach weren't hostile)..) I've checked my crimes value - i had no open bounties..) I've checked, if i had some weird disease or effect on my active effects screen - i had no entry there.) I searched through my whole inventory, for items, that could have triggered such a behaviour, maybe some stolen gear, or some weird ingredients, like e.g. human heart, necromancer equipment - i found nothing. What i did was, that after entering Dragonsreach, i immediately pressed the "T" button and waited 24 hours. After the waiting period i approached the Jarl and his followers again, and they weren't hostile anymore.I was not able to identify the root cause though, but it helped me through this problem at last. Now i am always making a manual savegame before entering Dragonsreach - my paranoia has grown after this issue. Regarding your issue, i am not sure, that the "T" Button will be available, i made some tests during my problem solving, i was not able to use the waiting button while i was already in combat state. When you enter Jorrvaskr you're immediately surrounded by the NPCs, in Dragonsreach i had to go upstairs first to reach the Jarl, therefore i was not in combat immediately when entering Dragonsreach.Maybe an invisibility potion before entering Jorrvaskr will help? Please note, due to the fact i was not able to identify the root cause, the above mentioned solution worked for me, but that doesn't mean, that it will help you. Good luck. rawr22 Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Thanks for the reply. I tried waiting in a corner to no effect, as well as dropping my entire inventory before going in. I managed to sneak in, talk to the leader and join but ran into the problem again when I try to deliver the shield. I've narrowed the problem down to Tovar and Athis. Everyone else is fine with me but if ether of these two see me they draw swords and attack, causing all the previously peaceful NPCs to join in on their side. I suppose I could try turn off their AI to get by, but that's far from ideal and I don't know if they're essential for later quests. I will play around with changing their faction and hope that doesn't screw things up later on. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Talaaya Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I had this problem too. Turns out, the Companions don't take kindly to people with Solitude bounty. Solitude is also known as Haafingar, which is how the bounty is shown in the stats. Confusing, right? I heard one of the Companions refer to Haafingar and remembered seeing that bounty in my stats so I tried removing that bounty. The Companions are no longer hostile to me.
Carmelpoptart Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 There's a console command "resetai" Just click on the hostile npcs and press enter. It should work.
Atep Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I had this issue as well. Came out of doing the first mission for the legion in solitude the fort you first clear as a test. They appeared out of no where and when they got close though. They didn't attack they asked me to join them. But Lydia had still attacked them. I got her down in the crouched position to stop it. They left me alone. Except for thovar non stop talking to me if I were near him. Thanks for the tip on the bounty though. Helped me out.
HaltTheRanger Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 If anyone still has this issues and notices this forum in 2016: I've been having the same hostility issues as mentioned above. However, the fixes above did not work for me, sadly. I managed to find a "fix" that worked for me. 1) I made sure that I had no bounty (as in committing crimes and clearing them) as well as using console commands "player.setcrimegold 0"2) They still attacked me, so I had to use the console again, but this time using the "tdetect" command3) To be safe, I went ahead and "resetai" on the main companions since they weren't attacking me (I feel this is optional, but just making sure) After this, I was able to interact with every companion without them attacking me. Apparently the issue was with the ai detection.
