PhilAnselmoXX
Hi guys.I'm using normal maps to change the textures of Skyrim but when i save my work, Photoshop says "Alpha channel are not saved" or something like that, so the textures remain with the normal maps colors. Can you help me, please? Edited November 24, 2011 by PhilAnselmoXX

darthsloth74
What format are you trying to save them in ? DDS ... they're textures. DXTC 5 for a normal map. DXTC 3 also works if the alpha channel is very basic.

I followed this tutorial video and i did the same stuff:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivfOQGS7Fx0 If it helps, i'm trying to mod the Iron Cuirass. darthsloth74
Okay this may sound stupid but have you flattened the image before saving? The DDS plugins can be weird sometimes. Make sure you make a backup or undo it before you flatten all layers in your PSD.

If it can help, when i save it in DXTC 5, my character was "wearing" only the textures of the armor and not the polygonal model ...so i was only head, arms and legs. http://205.196.120.19/1ac52e2f3407299f4f3c610084bc00b0b72a902ad39c843f5ea1e3b998b8caea5g.jpg Screenshot loading up here. darthsloth74
PSD: Photoshop document which you save to keep all the layers safe for saving. You are using Photoshop right? That doesn't even look like a texture it looks like the armour has turned wireframe. Can you upload a picture of your normal map and a picture of the the alpha channel section in Photoshop, I can't work out what you've done otherwise. Alternatively upload the file to mediafire or something and I'll take a look at it for you.

darthsloth74
Okay first thing the colour of your normal map is completely off in the second image which could be part of the problem. The correct normal base colour I believe is R: 128 G:128 B:255. I'm also wondering if you've saved this as DXT5_NM which could also cause problems it needs to be saved as DXT5 ARGB 8bpp/interpolated alpha. The first image with the layers looks correct, flatten that and try saving again. Don't normalize in case that is causing the issue. You haven't played with any of the settings in the DDS plugin have you? I did that once and it broke it. Alternatively you could try reinstalling the DDS plugin since if somethings busted, a reinstall usually fixes it. Other than that I'm at a loss to explain this one.
