How to trace the cause of a crash?

can you supply me the links to the lower NON DLC mods please. So I can load them here and see how the code runs?

 

IF you run the game with just the DLC content ? does this still occur?

 

the version of the engine might be the cause too. there is a way to alter that and fix an internal bug if that is in fact the cause, which may very well be the case.

 

on the Fo3 mod pages, use the search feature and use "fake" as the term. download and install the fake /listed as steam executable, it is used to work backwards so you can update the geck for a steam game. once the geck is updated, a refresh of the steam catch will put back the older version /steam 1.7 engine.

 

the process involves changes to a lot of files.

 

suggested due to an uncanny results your getting. To me, this acts like a permission issue some how. locked files?

I tried to run the game with 0 mods, 100% vanilla with just the DLCs. Instead of regular crashes, it freezed.

I have translated some mods with a tool called ESP-ESM Translator when it was needed. I don't know, maybe it has an impact, so I just let you know.

 

Otherwise can you please describe me more precisely what I need to do with the fake steam exe and GECK thing?

I have downloaded the fake file and placed it in the Fallout 3 directory. I then installed GECK because I haven't done that yet, but it installed in another directory, so I manually moved it back to the Fallout 3 folder.

Am I good so far? How do I update GECK now?

Also, I've made a copy of the previous Fallout3.exe, can I just put it back after I'm done with this process, instead of updating Steam cache? Because it messes up with other things I think...

 

Regarding locked files, I don't know. Maybe. I haven't locked anything though. How could I check?

The story has become clear now, openness shows where things might be wrong "Might be".

1. Weather and Lighting Overhaul + SweetFX <--- possible ini screwed, or incorrect version application.

You need to run the geck update program so it is updated to the highest version.

Then you can safely do what required to run the 1.7 engine and game update, provided here on the nexus.

Throw it away, won't need that.

 

1.7 will resort the data back to the current version control the geck updates the game too. but, you need to do some work, it's not an English game. this could be why your having so many issues too.

most of the stuff are ports from one game to another, your choices are kinda bad. I downloaded all I could find that were associated with the authors involved.

 

Does not mean I know where the problem is, but I have to guess, your running ENB series data and it's still active.

one hell of a combination of details..To guarantee CTD's.
