danshive
Earlier today, I was hoping to raise my alteration a bit, and I figured I'd use Detect Life as I walked around to boost it as I went. I was in a town as I did it, and my skill level almost immediately went up. I used it again, and the same thing happened. I quickly figured out that the number of life readings being read determines how much of a boost to the skill using the spell gives. If you have a lot of magicka and a fast magicka regeneration rate, one can go to a highly populated safe area and get spell points in Alteration somewhat ridiculously fast. I've been pretty much putting all my points into Magicka and wearing equipment that speeds up the regen, and for a while, simply emptying my magicka bar with the spell would add a skill point each time. That didn't last forever, but it was still very fast. Just thought I'd share. I don't THINK this has been brought up yet on these forums yet (did a quick search), but if it has, my apologies. Beriallord
Tips for leveling some of the other spells: Recommended -100% cost gear for respective schools, which requires 100 enchanting. Conjuration: I leveled conjuration up by spamming soul trap on a bandit, took me less than 10 minutes to get it from 20-100. I had enchanted gear for free cast though which helped boost the speed of leveling. Destruction: Also the higher tier destruction spells give a larger XP gain when they hit. I compared the first flame spell with incinerate, and you level way faster using incinerate. Basically summon a pet, nuke it with incinerate/ice lance/thunder bolt, then repeat. Takes longer than 10 minutes, but its the fastest way I could come up with to grind destruction. Restoration: Also the stronger heal spells with restoration also give a larger XP bonus than the first spell. I believe you can also hold a ward up and let an enemy mage cast at you for xp. Also, I haven't bothered with Illusion on any of my characters yet, so if anyone knows the best way to level that, make a suggestion. Euclid
Put a vase or something behind a bench (the one in the reception area of the archmage room works fine) and then use telekinesis (drag) until your mana is depleted. Wait until full mana and repeat. Takes about 1 hours to get to lvl 100 in Alteration. Spam muffle all the time. No need to walk around. One hour and you hit 100 illusion. Ooops, should that go to the spoiler section? meaculpa. Cheers Euclid
Corakus
In my experience the best method to level Alteration is to cast Waterbreathing while standing in shallow water.
