jhelzei
I've got an old laptop that I'm trying to get Skyrim running on. The game runs on high settings at about 45fps, but the shadows are driving me bonkers. The usual fix is to install an ENB, but the graphics card in this laptop only supports DirectX 10. IIRC, ENB is really designed for DX11. Is it possible to install an ENB to just fix the shadows, without all the other visual effects? Would an ENB even run on gfx card this old? redrakiton125
Maybe something like this http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50855/?
jhelzei
Nope, that mod didn't do it. I'm talking about the nasty stairstepping (aka "blocky") effect on vanilla shadows. See the attached screenshot. This is on high. I tried ultra, and it's better, but my framrate dropped to about 20 fps.
wahwah1975
Have you tried the shadow striping fix? I run in addition with my enb, but smooths shadows to an extent on its own: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/27418/
jhelzei
In case anyone ever comes back to the topic, I found that an ENB *does* work with my DX10 GPU. I used the "Gameplay Performance ENB" found here: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53100/? The fly in the ointment is I had to drop my resolution from 1920x1200 to 1280x800 to maintain good FPS. I get 35-40 fps now with the ENB at the lower resolution, whereas I was getting about 45 fps at 1200p if I turned off shadows. Probably the best compromise I'm going to get...
