I'm fixing up the armor. I hate the default textures.

Question about the iron armor: Rust or no rust?

How much rust?

[OLD] Update 1:

Alright - male armor is completed - still gotta do the female version. Whacha think?:

Slight rust and some dirt and wear, scratches etc is always a good idea. However a warrior would try to maintain their armour as well as possible so its best never to overdo it.

Exactly what I was thinking - but I remembered it IS iron.

Chances are if you have iron - you didn't smith it and you just picked it up.

Steel armor available nearly immediately. Ya know?

You don't have a lot of $$$ starting out.

Thank you for your advice - it is much appreciated.

I look forward to more feedback after I upload the comparison photos.

Well another option would be to have more chainmail type armours at low level. Theres too much plate in Skyrim for me. Nords are essentially Vikings who don't wear heavy stuff.

Regarding Iron armour, considering how everyone seems to have it, maybe you could make it look like real bargain basement stuff, the banded iron armour looks particularly nasty to me.

I'm making it scratched up and rusted.. also bringing out a little color since iron is a metal with a considerable variety once you add rust.

I'll look into completely redesigning the armor in chainmail as well.. which will require new bump maps.

Looking at the actual model in 3ds max - the armor has actual pauldrons as well as a layered "skirt armor" more or less.

Meaning it is wider at the hips and gets lower into 3 sections. Not much I could do about that. Is there a chainmail varient that features heavy pauldrons?

Find some reference images for me while I'm working on the plate and I'll see what I can do for you.

Thanks. I would suggest looking at any Viking or Anglo-Saxon reference images. Anything thats a break from the vanilla stuff would be fine in my opinion. So be as creative as you like.

I also use 3ds Max, I can model quite well and my texturing is reasonable, my personal issue however is rigging. Helmets, footwear etc is easy but breastplates, full clothing etc is a complete irritating nightmare for me. lol.
