Black Screen with the performance mod

Hello there!

I wanted to try the Performance mod (the one which changes a dll-file) because I could run Oblivion always on max settings. Skyrim instead runs even in medium settings not quite satisfying. After copying the dll the game set the video settings on high by itself after the detection.

But all the time I try to start the game I get only a black screen, the sound works but there's no screen.

Thanks for any help! :)

Do you have any GPU monitoring tools (EVGA, MSI Afterburner, etc.) running in the background? If so try disabling them. You can also try using Game Booster to disable all background processes.

You may just have to do without that mod if it's not a background process causing the issue. My understanding of it is that it's really for specific cards (this is what I've been told) and it may not work properly, or at all for other cards. You can also try out ENBSeries. It works wonders for me and a lot of other people, though there are a few still experiencing problems with it (most of them have ATI cards and Boris is working on it).

I try this ENBSeries stuff out.

I really wonder why this "performance mod" causes this black screen issue. That's really a damn thing, because with it it sets my graphic settings (like in Oblivion) automatically to very high. If there weren't the black screen... ;)

And the graphic of Skyrim seems very similar to the one in Oblivion, so I really don't understand this performance difference.

Edit: By the way: Could somebody explain me how to use two d3d9.dll files at the same time, like it says in the readme of ENB? I don't get that part.

I would like to try both mods together, maybe that helps against the black screen.

Rename the Performance mod's d3d9.dll to d3d9Performance.dll (or anything you like so long as it ends with .dll) leave all of the files associated with the performance mod (including your renamed .dll) in the \Skyrim\ folder, Open ENBPatch.ini and change the following lines of code:

[PROXY]
EnableProxyLibrary=true
InitProxyFunctions=true
ProxyLibrary=d3d9Performance.dll

Make sure the last line there matches whatever you renamed the performance mod's .dll to.
