Axeface
Hello,Im looking to understand Max Frames to Render Ahead in order to lower my gpu's stress, I live in a hot country and summer is coming, and every week my GPU is getting hotter and hotter, and last night on skyrim I started hitting the 90's. What I would like to know is, does Max Frames to Render Ahead = 0 mean that the card is allowed to render infinite frames ahead? Or does it mean that the card cant render any frames ahead? Eg, only the current frame.I would assume that if it's the former, GPU stress would be maximised, If its the latter, it would be Minimised. Currently the best way for me to lower my gpu's heat is to enable Vsync, In simple indoor environments with Vsync off, my FPS can shoot up over the 100's, and in turn the temp rises. With vsync on this is minimised. Thanks in advance. Edited November 25, 2011 by Axeface
RitualBlack
Its not very good to be sitting around the 90*C mark. Since your fps is running that high I am going to assume you have either an upper 6900 series amd, or a 580/590. Is your fan system working properly? If not that may be a cause of your heat. Also you shouldn't be using a stock fan with one of those cards (if you are). My laptop has three stock fans equivalents in it+ a cooling pad with 3 more stock sized fans just to keep it around the 40-50ish*C mark while playing games. I would recommend getting a much larger fan, or a setup which includes multiple fans to push the hot air out. Maybe you could also unscrew and remove the side of your desktop case to allow better cooling, but you would need to remove dust more regularly. I believe you are talking about the Skyrim fps limiter tool, and since your fps is so high I would recommend disabling v sync in the configuration and limiting the fps ]to around 45-50 and setting the max render frames to the 5-10 range. Hopefully this helps you and good luck :).

I think if you put high around 5-7 it should put load on CPU to keep up with GPU( and zero not means infinite, CPU prepare frames for GPU) and for heat well let the vsync enable and maximum two hour gameplay if your card reaching 90.
