djbeema
I think it would be absolutely marvelous if someone made a mod to make horses have a point. There are two major things I would like to see in such a mod: 1. Add the ability to fight from horseback. Would be great if, instead of coming to dead stop, slowly going through the dismount animation (all the while being attacked), if you could just gallop by with your sword drawn or bow& arrow or what have you, and attack people whilst still on horseback. 2. "Upgradable" horses. I can't help but notice that riding on horseback provides absolutely no benefits. The speed is almost the same as the run speed... it's like a pathetic lethargic plodding along. The horse feels like its heart is about to give out. What I'm saying is apparently Nordic horse breeders don't know a horse from a pile of rocks. So, in lieu of something simplistic like just making horses move faster, I was thinking it would be cool if you could buy better horses at different stables throughout the game. The faster/more durable the horse, the more expensive they are. Still pretty simple, but it makes the horses feel a little more worthy and purposeful. Thoughts? I don't know anything about modding, so I have no idea how hard or time consuming this would be.
zappa45
I agree that a complete Horse overhaul is needed. Not only is the horse ui ridiculous but even the leg portions of the model and animations are terrible. This is a real step backwards for the entire series. The horse controls were fine in Oblivion. You could go backwards, turn without going in circles, etc. Since there is no mounted combat I can see no reason at all why they changed the perfectly good horse ui and animation from oblivion. Although you can rare up on the horse now it has no good use and turning and moving is so much worse it isn't worth dealing with. The third person only camera angle is also a big distraction because since you are forced to use third person and the camera is locked at a certain distance the horse disappears sometimes because you are looking from inside the horse and the model disappears. This is just stupid and lazy work from Bethesda and just shoddy in general. They have added horses to the game since Oblivion only to make them absolutely useless. I wonder if they intend to sell us some more horse armor for a buck fifty or maybe a reverse movement skill? Overall until someone totally overhauls this game I am just shaking my head at the substandard work I have seen all through Skyrim ...it's a real disappointment to me after two and a half years of waiting. While everyone seems to be blowing smoke all up Bethesda for Skyrim, the negative aspects of this game just overwhelm the positive aspects that I like. Real lazy work overall and they have unnecessarily broken that which didn't need fixing. I really hope that the first patch is gonna be a big one and a real fixer but I'm not holding my breath. Half of this game needs to be completely redone. The modding community is up to the task I am sure but they have their work cut out for them. Is that a real poncho or a poncho from commercial? Kairo29
I tried to gather a lot of horse ideas I had and other people had in this thread: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/466513-horse-or-mount-improvements/page__st__30__p__3893199__hl__horse__fromsearch__1#entry3893199 if you guys want to check it out. Upgradeable horses sounds like one to add to the list.
djbeema
cool, will check it out Kairo29 You might be interested to know...I found out why the horses are so slow and useless. A trusted source tells me that when they made the horse move faster (you know, like a horse) on Xbox360 or low-end PC's the terrain couldn't load in fast enough to keep up with the movement, so they decided to just keep it slow. Sigh... wasn't terribly surprised to hear that I guess. :wallbash: The thing I've realized most from playing Skyrim is just how badly the current console generation is really holding back gaming. Ichibu
i agree u can sort the speed urself btw for now (and for making a mod i guess), open console, click ur horse (might have to be on him) and put setav speedmult 150try 300 :D its epic i think more important before mounted combat (which will probably be really hard and long to do otherwise itd be there) is passive horses!!!!my f***ing dick horse ruins outside combat. its bad enough theres no first person for riding AND no combat and thus not even an excuse for 3rd person and yet theres more, when my horse runs over to a dragon and starts doing its retarded flailing, getting in my way and getting itself caught on fire all the time.then when the deed is done and the enemy is defeated in a tainted fight, my horse will usually run away a little bit and round a corner for no reason while i loot the body. all i wanted the *censored* to do was stand there like a lemon goddamnit why am i so disappointed lol frankly, f*** the horses in this game. and so we must mod!any idea how people are getting esp mods out?
