LE Request -- Minimal Compass/HUD?

I for one enjoy immersing myself into the ever increasing realism of the world of TES. I would love to see a mod minimizing the compass to almost nothing at all. Perhaps just a subtle "N" for north at the top of the screen when I face that direction. I find that with all the generous help from the UI (which is not a terrible thing), I am watching that more than I am the surroundings.

 

I think it'd be cooler to navigate with landmarks and the sun's position than a compass, you get to enjoy the game's beauty a little more thoroughly. In addition, the waypoints could still exist. Not sure how they would be implemented exactly with this compass idea.

 

Any thoughts?

One of my thoughts was to create an "extended HUD" which only displays when a hot key is held (fades on key release, and doesn't pause game). You could demote the compass to that view and then only bring it up once in a while as needed.
