texture recolor trouble

kingvrage

Recommended Posts

im trying to change the color of fire spells cast by the player, i extracted the textures from the bsa, recolored every fire texture in the game to make sure i got the right 1, i ran the game with the texture folder and texture bsa both present, then i ran the game and no change occurred, i did the same with only the textures folder present and still no green fire showed the game, just plane looking fire. if im using the original addresses and folder names shoudnt my green fire textures over write the vanilla 1's? and just to be sure, could someone please tell me the name of the correct textures i should recolor to get the effect of casting green fire spells? im lost, and i am by no means a n00b at modding. someone please help.

thanks.

this is going towards what i hope will be a mod everyone will enjoy.

Oh! Well, I just found that effects\gradients\ gradflame01.dds is fire color..

For fire wall spell, spraying fire and the resulting fire wall are both dependent on gradflame01.dds

But, the fire that is the 'base' of the fire wall is still normal orange..

Edit: All the projectile fire spells use gradflame01.dds. And the 'icon' when selecting fire spells will show in the color gradflame is. (though in game, the spell in your hand will still be orange)

gradflame01.dds = blue

Flames : shoot blue fire

fireball : the fireball trail is blue

wall of fire : the wall is blue, base is default orange

Firebolt : didn't test, but I assume it shows as fireball does, just the trail

Fire cloak is a separate texture of it's own.

still no green, i changed the color of the texture in int.net, saved it in its own folder and copied it and over wrote vanilla 1 in the data/textures/effects/gradients. the only change i noticed is when i cast fire wall, my wall has big black flame shaped it, hat did i do wrong, or rather, what did you do to make it work?
