Farlo
Even without a modded Textures folder most of the ground and building textures (haven't seen it on items yet) have very sharp edges and won't blend properly. For instance, hedges on walls are a solid hedge texture in a blocky shape on top of the wall texture. The same happens on the ground, the edges of pathways that are supposed to look less traveled on have very distinct and sharp edges with the actual pavement of the path. Before I go and reinstall the game and mods completely I was hoping there might be a simpler answer, so here I am . I'd post some example screenshots, but I'm currently on my cellphone, however if they're really needed I can in a couple hours. Thanks in advanced! MShoap13
Screenshots and a list of what mods/tweaks you have running would be helpful in troubleshooting your issue. Keep in mid that there are still a handful (a very large handful) of textures that need to be patched as of v1.1. One example is the road/grass fade section is completely missing near the exit of DragonsReach Dungeon. It's just a solid road texture placed directly against a solid grass texture. Farlo
It's definitely not a problem with the vanilla game since they haven't been like this until now, it must have happened some time last night as I was putting in new textures. I honestly have no idea what mods are currently active since they're all just texture files and I've been overlapping some, which may be one of my major problems. Aside from the various "HD-this-and-that" textures, I only have the 4GB Enabler, FXAA Injector, and ENBSeries mods installed, but I didn't think any of these would cause the problem since they just affect the post-processing (I think). I've tried running the game after removing (renaming) the Textures and Interface folders as well as the DLLs used by the various mods, but it still happens. If worst comes to worst, I guess I'll have to start organizing my mods folders and checking everything I install (like I should already), oh well. MShoap13
If the problem was due to textures added, and removing them didn't solve it then it sounds like you have a Windows UAC problem. To get around Windows UAC it's recommended to move Steam somewhere outside of C:\Program Files\ and to uninstall Skyrim (C:\Games\ is a common directory), clean the registry of any old keys pertaining to Skyrim, reboot, then reinstall Skyrim under Steam. I personally recommend using Revo Uninstaller to uninstall Skyrim as it automatically scans for and asks if you'd like to delete the old registry entries. Not removing them could result in third party utilities (like NMM) being unable to find Skyrim among other problems. If you'd like to keep your old save files, .ini tweaks, or mods you can use Bben's Oblivion Reinstall Procedure as a general guide on how to do so for Skyrim. It's also more than possible that you've tweaked some setting in the .ini's that seemed fine initially but since then have started causing issues. uGridsToLoad is one of the most suspect lines but things regarding Distant LOD, memory usage, etc. also have the potential to cause this type of problem. So, if you've changed any of those you may want to look into that first, and if you've changed uGridsToLoad you'll need to follow the steps found here to avoid making your save file unloadable. Outside of uGridsToLoad, simply moving your current .ini's out of the \My Games\Skyrim\ directory should force the game to generate you some fresh ones. Farlo
I disabled UAC and stole my drive back from TrustedInstaller as soon as I installed Win7, so I doubt any file ownership issues caused it, but I'll check to make sure I still own the Steam folder. I haven't edited my .ini's in the last few days, but I'll be sure to give that a shot too. Thanks for the suggestions and I'll report back when I've tested them at home :wallbash:
Farlo
Alright, so I decided to just reinstall the game and now I'm having a different issue... When I first load a save I'll have ~15 FPS, but then if I Alt-Tab out and back in, the FPS jumps to 40+. It doesn't work every time, but if I restart the game a couple of times, eventually Alt-Tabbing will bring my FPS back up. Edit: Also, sometimes the game will "load forever" unless I Ctrl+Alt+Del out of the game, but after a few seconds it comes back up to the loaded game with low FPS. MShoap13
The FPS variance is due to how horrid the game handles memory, and probably won't get better without a patch from Bethesda. The LAA flag may or may not help with this issue, but it won't totally resolve it. If "the game loads forever" is referring to when you load a save, or make interior to exterior transitions I've had a similar issue that popped up a week after I tweaked my .ini's but it was being caused by some of the [MapMenu] tweaks, including the ones regarding LOD and camera angle.
