How to you kill dragons?

I keep my eyes peeled for any flying overhead. And it seems that if I fast travel now, I get one almost everytime if I travel to communities around the perimeter. WOOT!

I also have delayed doing the MQ as much as possible. I don't know if it drives 'em to come after me, but it sure seems like it!

Anyways, once I have one in the vicinity I don't waste time shooting at 'em....too d**n hard. I just run around under them, jumping up and down. It may seem stoopid....but I have actually only had 1 not land and fight. Since it works for me, I'm stickin' with it!

Once, they land I hit 'em with my first shout to really get their attention, then I wade in. My toon cannot do so, but I usually do my evil laugh because I know they are MINE now! I wear DS armor that I have made from their corpses and I DW some ebony swords(altho for the first 20 or 30 I used dual dwarven maces). I rarely take much damage--about 1/3 or so. Although I the last 2 elder Drakes I have killed have pushed me to about half. The last one maybe not....I fought him on a tower where I had given it a mortal blow and it fell down(tearing up a divot...nice!) and I jumped off the top onto it instead of running down the stairs. It was a relatively short tower so it wasn't that big of a deal. But charging down 3 filights of stairs is slightly dizzying, so I jumped and took a bit of damage there. I could tell it was all but dead so I pulled a crit swing and killed it with a final blow! But, best of all, I had a nice crit which then gave me a nice cinematic of me decapitating it. =)

All my fights are like that. I have shields ready if I start getting pummeled that are primed with resistances, but haven't needed 'em. I have heard that some have had a tough time with Drakes, but I haven't yet. I like to just charge their maw, they get a good blast or 3 on me, but in the meantime I am bludgeoning them to death...or now I guess it would be 'hacking them to pieces'!!

I have also read about some of their attacks they can do....I hadn't really seen any of them tho'. I hadn't let 'em live long enough I guess. I stood there once just to see what it would do to me and it was nice, it bit down on me so I was chomped about down to the waist...then it gave me a fling away. Nice! I have since then had a tail-swipe too, no wing buffet that I have noticed though. Lastly, I am glad they scale a bit....but I think they should be tougher. Drakes are the Alpha Predator-they should be a brutal fight imo.

2 Dremora Lords can take down a dragon twice as fast as any Player warrior can, unless he have exploited the crafting proffesions.

And the fact that as a mage you will die in about 2 attacks from the dragon, makes it harder for us to manage than you plate guys.

Aye, Matth85....I wear my Dragonscale armor and although it is considered 'light armor' it is certainly more protection then those little dresses the mages wear =P

As for inferring that I have exploited the crafting professions, that would be incorrect. I have worked diligently to get my smithing, and then enchanting maxed and have put almost every point into those trees(with a few in 1 handed as well!). So, while I havent actually put on my mage duds yet, to go that route- I will take your word at how fast a couple of summoned does the job, I am sure it works well and it sounds like a good strategy for a clothy. I will have to try that method when I start on the magic quests!(and you can have 2?! summoned creatures?? is there no limit?? interesting!)

I can say, having done in upwards of 40+ dragons, that I can kill em pretty quickly. I haven't actually.."timed" it, but it is a matter of seconds...30 or less, certainly*.

*If I can get em on the ground of course....If they are flying around or land and take off before I can close to melee distance extends that time.
