No Man’s Sky is arguably the biggest release of the year. There’s no denying that the sheer scale of this procedurally generated universe is simply mind-boggling. But, does it live up to the hype? That’s up to you to decide.

So where does that leave us mod enthusiasts in the meantime? Well, there’s good news! With the addition of the first set of community-made modding tools, we have opened the No Man’s Sky Nexus site: http://nexusmods.com/nomanssky

Nexus user Atari1337 and others in the NMS community have found their way into the inner-workings of No Man’s Sky. What they’ve found is a universe of possibilities and it’s been opened to us all. Whoa.

The PSARC Archive tool will allow you to extract and recompile the appropriate archives, enabling you to tinker with the game’s files directly. The description contains some brief usage notes as well, for those of you who are brave enough to explore this brave new world. Already, this has led to mods being conceived and released, such as SkyCode's UI Font Change.

I must remind you though - modding the game at this stage is going to be risky. This is uncharted territory folks, so it’s going to be dangerous out there. Take whatever precautions you can but keep in mind, things may unravel at any time.

Not much is known about the limits of what can be done yet but that’s what makes this so exciting! Explore and discuss your findings in the new No Man’s Sky forums.

See you all on the flip-side.

I was mucking around with PSArc, but got tired of the command line, so wrote a little tool:

http://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/19

Just drag PAK files on to PSArcTool.EXE to extract.

Drag other file(s)/folder(s) on to create a PAK file.

It's not real intelligent, but hopefully helps. Edited by periander

This game has improved so much with these mods. I just gave my score from an 4 to a 6 because the game is still is missing all the stuff they promised, but I presume it will come as it develops. Understand Sony just gave the devs too much pressure to get it released. That's what's nice about Star Citizen, no corporate pressure. I've installed about a half dozen of the mods and it has really improved the experience. I'm taking my time in exploring, I'm not in a rush to get the center.
