I tried running it when i first bought it, in a pathetic desperate hope that my lousy Intel 965 chipset would run it on my toshiba laptop.. and surprise surprise, all I had when i started the game was a load of distorted grey, black and white triangles eminating from the centre. Not a happy bunny :(

Anywho, being the persistant little bugger I am, i wasnt going to quit so searched for virtual graphic cards on Google and found a bit of software called 3d Analyzer (v2.36). I ran it with the Radeon 8500 settings. Again, I wasnt expecting much but...

... It worked!! Ran absolutely fine. And i know what you're thinking.. Bet it lagged like hell, right? Wrong.. Nice, smooth... Happy as a pig in it's own filth right now.

Yes, there may be problems somewhere else along in the game, but i write this not to say i have found a 100% fail proof solution to the bane that is the 965 chipset, but to offer the best solution i've found so far. It's skyrim, and it's working.

I shall play more and notify of any problems in the future, if there are any. Enjoy folks!!

Yes, please. I have Skyrim and I run it through Steam on my desktop and on a laptop. My daughter wants it on her laptop, a Dell D620 with a 945 Chipset. I am using 3d Analyzer, which I am very familiar with, but I can't get farther than almost loading with the error "Failed to initialize renderer. Shader model 3 is required but not supported by your card. I used the settings you suggested. Can you list all of the settings you used, and whether or not you ran it through Steam?
