do i fear death? honestly... no. fearing death is fear of the unknown, same as fear of the dark. i like the dark. it's like a warm blanket that covers and conceals me. I’m perfectly at home in the dark places few people tread.

----edit

that doesn't mean i'd go running infront of a train unless i had a damn good reason to do so. as someone once said "i can dodge folly... (pause for effect) without backing into fear"

Do I fear death?

Penn Jillette said it the best in an interview with Piers Morgan:

MORGAN: You must be terrified of death?

JILLETTE: Not at all. Not even slightly.

MORGAN: But what do you think happens to you?

JILLETTE: How scared are you of 1890. Does 1890 terrify you?

MORGAN: 1890?

JILLETTE: 1890, yeah.

MORGAN: What are you on about?

JILLETTE: You weren't alive then, right?

MORGAN: No.

JILLETTE: You weren't alive and you didn't exist in any way. Is that a horror to you?

MORGAN: No.

JILLETTE: So why is 2090 any worse than that?

Do I fear death? No. I fear the inevitable pain or mayhem that precedes it, but death itself? Only other people will feel the pain of my death, and that is regrettable, but when I am dead, I won't be able to feel bad about it.

I have been to a few funerals and seen the face of a dead person in the coffin and I wasn´t too shocked. If death is instantaneous you won´t have time to feel any fear or anything, but if it lingers on, then you will probably go through all the emotions. I see death as a beginning of something unknown or at least I hope that it is a beginning and not the final end.

Hmmm, at least one has voted that death is only a disease to be conquered. So someone has faith in science and the hope that we will someday conquer death.

Humans are hard wired to fear death, otherwise we probably wouldn't have survived as a species up to this point. Death is inevitable, its going to happen eventually, some people seek comfort from others, and even from religions to dull the reality that everyone is eventually going to be dead. I believe when you die, you are dead by the very definition, meaning you cease to exist entirely. I am not uncomfortable with the idea that one day I will cease to exist entirely, I see it as inevitable, and there is no point in moaning about it. Unless someone can prove otherwise with hard facts that you move on to something else after death, I will believe death means you cease to exist entirely.

death is inevitable. its gunna happen. i dont fear it. not fearing death and and not wanting to die are two different things. i dont jump of cliffs or go inside a bear cage at the zoo because i dont want to die. but on the other hand i do not fear death.

i have had a gun pointed at me before (a classic mugging, had nothing on me) and honestly, i was pretty calm about it.

the only part of death that would suck would be tortured to death. i am afraid of feeling (x amount of time) of pain before death. whether this be at the hand of another person, or simply my body working against me in old age before i die.

and will death be conquered by science. i hope not. ppl need to die. its how life works. we already use medicine to not only live longer then we should, but survive things we shouldnt....no death...or even just an increased life span, will mean the death of our planet. over population. used resources, etc, a lot faster. ive always thought it funny how humanity thinks life is short. and we must extend it. we have one of the longest life spans of any species on the planet (plus as i said, medicine to survive things we should, which no other species has) now i will admit, im 21 years old, so my mentality comes from still having a long life ahead of me....instead of trying to make our life spans longer, perhaps we should evolve to be more independent at an earlier age. 100 years ago, kids worked from an extremely early age and moved out, married had kids, etc. now we start working at 16 or in many cases later then that (much later for many ppl). we are nurtured by our parents until we are at least 18 or older. because we take so long to get going, it then makes our life feel so much shorter.

that and since we become of age to start having a life, we are brought up to work. everything we do from a young age revolves around us getting a job, so for the rest of our life we do nothing but work everyday....this brings up the meaning of life. we as humans are brought up that the meaning of life is to work. no matter how much travel you do, or how much fun you have in college, eventually you will need to work to survive (or win the lottery) and youll be doing that for the rest of your life....i would go on, but im veering to far off topic. but i think that along with the meaning of death is to talk about the meaning of life.

When I say I don't fear death, I mean it as when the time comes, it comes, nd there's nothing that can be done. I don't know what I'll be feeling, though hopefully it happens so fast I have no time to feel anything. I certainly don't feel brave enough to risk it, except to save a loved one if I ever had to.

I don't think death should be conquered. It's necessary to the balance of things. This world is severely overpopulted, which brings great suffering to many. Our attempts to bring about longer lives and eradicate diseases has thrown things severely out of balance, and it worries me.

I prefer the idea that once you die, that's it.

Ideas of afters or reincarnation appear like a temptation for copt out. The thought that this is it, your one time offer, is what makes life even more precious and amazing.
