There's nothing beyond it, you die, you get buried and you decompose, the end. The only thing that is left behind are the memories, when memories fade away, you disappear completely.

And what proof do you have of that?

Once you're dead, there's no coming back. This alone disapproves of your knowledge because you wouldn't be here to tell us if you were dead. Anything could be after death, but no one will ever know until they die, and it doesn't matter anyway because there's no going back.

True, I have no proof. I just stated my opinion on what's beyond it.

Death may not be permanent if you believe in reincarnation, that you are born back on this planet. Unfortunately it appears that in the process of reincarnation you lose all your memories of your past life, which prevents you from learning from any mistakes you made in your past life, a weird rule if you ask me and inefficient. Wouldn´t we have evolved much faster if we had all the memories of our ancestors to help us? So, either there is no reincarnation, or it is governed by some very strange rules, who knows?

The funny thing about life and death is the human mind can not understand a start without a end, or anything with a single beginning. Our minds think in a line and can not think in any other way. Who is to say everything has to have a start or a end? The best example of this is the universe.

What is death? Can any one remember how it was before you was born? No. That´s how I think it is. Every thing from the past are just memories, stored in our mind, even those from from our own life. Only thing that is not stored as memory, is the present. As soon as we reach for it, it has allready become past.

We claim that universe is with no beginning and no end. I stick with @Marharth here. How can we then claim that life has a beginning and an end?

See, the time before we were born, we did not exist. The universe has no beginning, so for all eternity we did not exist. When we die, we will be dead for all eternity, since universe has no end either. Conclusion: for all eternity we did not exist. How can we even claim that we exist? How does that combine with our straight thinking that there has to be and beginning and an end?

I see it as a ring of eternity, and the diamond that shines on top of that ring is our life. When it shines no more, there is no life.

How it is to be dead? Black screen, I guess.

What do you mean the universe had no beginning?? Our universe began with the Big Bang and eventually it will die a heat death as all the stars run out of fuel and all that will remain are the black holes and even they will evaporate in time. But the question is: What´s beyond our universe? Think of our universe as an ever expanding bubble, what´s outside of the bubble? Other universes perhaps? So it is likely that there has existed life in universes that existed prior to our universe and that life could have evolved into such an advanced stage that they have the power to generate new universes and manipulate them. This is one theory explaining the seemingly fine tuned physical laws of our universe, which allow life to exist. That the universe was designed by an advanced and powerful alien intelligence. Some may see this as God, but then again would we serve any powerful alien race as Gods, much like the Goa´uld in Stargate? But just to clarify on that, the theory prescribes that a powerful ALIEN intelligence created the universe, not God, because having the power to create a universe does not fulfill the criteria for being a god, which includes Omniscience (all-knowing), Omnipotence (all powerful) Omnibenevolence (all-loving) etc. etc. After all, we are creating minuscule universes on our computers already when we create game worlds.

Another theory is that our universe is just a computer simulation run by some alien intelligence on a computer and we are not aware of this since we are inside the simulation. So, do we live in the Matrix created by some advanced alien intelligence and someday the alien gets bored of playing this game and quits and all we see is a giant Game Over sign and then we fade into nothingness?

I believe that death is not the final end of everything. I believe in some sort of an afterlife and I base this belief on the Near-Death experiences of those who have been clinically dead and have been revived. I do not believe that these experiences are mere hallucinations caused by hypoxia (lack of oxygen) in the brain as the brains of those who are dead have already shut down making it impossible to hallucinate, since even hallucinations require brain activity and those who have been dead have had insufficient brain activity to support complex hallucinations. So, how do we explain these Near-Death experiences? It is an interesting question for science and raises the question whether consciousness is located exclusively in the brain.
