CTD During Intro

Good evening everyone who reads this,

I could use some help tracking down a CTD. When playing the opening mission my game silently CTD's about a minute after I gain control of my character, unless I am in a menu (lockpcking, looting, etc), then it waits till I leave the menu to crash. This happens regardless of whether I am playing the vanilla Helgen intro or Alternate Start. According to Skyrim Performance Monitor, the game ran for 2 minutes and 6 seconds before crashing on my last attempt.

I am playing on an Intel Core i5-3570 at 3.4 GHz with 16 GB of system ram. My video card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 with 4 GB of VRAM. The OS is Windows 7 x64.

Here is my load order from LOOT:

According to the memory blocks log and Skyrim Performance Monitor everything seems to be within acceptable parameters. I am unable to get a papyrus log for reasons beyond my comprehension at the moment. Oh and it should be noted that this is a clean install and I have deleted all my saved games from previous installs.

Any help anyone is able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

  • While using alternate start, you may try a selective loading by decreasing your loading mods by 50% the first time, then depending on if it keep crashing or not, either you decrease the loading mods by chunk of 10-20 or increase them to find the mod that is causing this.
  • I see you're using Rigmor of Bruma, there's a known incompatibility with this mod and Immersives armors that needs special attention and I'm wondering if it would be the same with immersive weapons. Solution : install or enable only RoB after IW is configured.
  • CTD at the start of the game troubleshoot.
  • Random CTDs troubleshoot.
  • Make sure you're using the good mods >> Dangerous mods list.
  • Install crash fixes with the UseOSAllocators=1 rather than skse.ini memory patch.
  • You may install ENBOOST, see /// Settings / memory
  • Verify gamecache.
  • CTDs troubleshooting page on Reddit. depending on what's happening in game, choose the subsections that describe the best your problem.

Here is a list of things that may help stabilizing your game if not already been done. :

/// Cleaning and correcting potential bugs :

  • Clean your master files to eliminate potential problems : Gopher's videos cleaning your masterfiles on the Nexus Tesedit page. You may use this updated guide to clean your masters. It contains the same automated cleaning procedure as Gopher explains in his video + repeating once for Dawnguard.esm + some selective manual cleaning.
  • The method above can be used to clean mods. LOOT should tell you which plugin you should clean. You may also do a check errors.

/// Load order / mods conflicts :

/// Settings / memory :

  • Ensure you're not using redundant memory patches, such as SSME, skse.ini; crash fixes with the UseOSAllocators=1 enabled, or safety load. Preferably, use crash fixes or skse memory patch.
  • Memory blocks log will help to refine memory settings.
  • Backup your ini files and delete the files. Skyrim.ini / SkyrimCustom.ini / SkyrimPrefs.ini found in C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Skyrim then use your vanilla launcher to autodetect and use best settings for your computer.
  • STEP INI tweaking wiki.
  • You may install ENBOOST >> ENB graphics / ENB haxx.

/// Save game :

/// Meshes healer :

  • Read here, this is potentially a cause of CTD that you can resolve by following the mod procedure on this page.

/// Useful informations :

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the prompt reply darstyler. I tried your suggestions switching to Crash Fixes and disabling Rigmor of Bruma until Immersive Weapons and Immersive Armors are configured and it seems to be working. I will play longer (going to try the vanilla intro) and see how it goes, but it is looking good. Thank you for your help.
