Jopo1980
Ok, this would be similar to the STALKER weapon pack, which ports weapons from an another game to Fallout NV. The game in question this time would be ARMA 2 by Bohemia Interactive, a milsim with lots of guns, vehicles and other objects to port. Here´s a list of some of the guns available in ARMA 2: Russian /OPFOR: AK-107 (with Kobra sights and other sights available, also with grenade launcher)PKM machine gunVSS Vintorez silenced rifle/submachine gunFN Fal assault rifle (available with night scope) RPG-18 rocket launcherRPG-7 rocket launcher with multiple ammo typesMETIS anti-tank missile launcher (wire guided)Strela (arrow) and Igla (needle) Anti-Air missile launchers US/BLUFOR: M-16 rifle (with various scopes and sights and the M203 grenade launcher)M249 machine gunM60 machine gunSCAR rifle (with different scopes and grenade launcher)British SA-80 rifle (in various versions) MAAWS (Carl Gustav) rocket launcherSMAW rocket launcherStinger Anti-Air missile launcherJavelin anti-tank missile launcher and much much more. Vehicles include some of the following which could be used as wrecks posted all over the wasteland: Humwee (various versions)UAZ (various versions)TrucksCivilian carsAH-64 ApacheKa-52 attack heloMi-24 Hind (in various versions)AV-8 Harrier jetA-10 jetSu-34 jetSu-25 jetT-72T-90T-55T-34 tanksM1A2 tankM1A2 TUSK tankBradley IFVBMP-2BMP-3BRDM-2BTR-60BTR-90LAV-25 ...etc. etc. Theres also a lot of objects that could be ported, including: Trees:PineFirother tree types HousesFurniture etc. etc. All of this stuff could be usable in creating new stuff for FNV, if we just port them over. Let me know if you have any experience in porting stuff and wish to help. I have a copy of ARMA 2 so I can provide the files, if I manage to unpack the .pbo archive files. If porting is illegal, then why is the STALKER weapon pack allowed to be in the forums? Hence I conclude that porting is allowed.
Cyberlazy
Stalker weapon pack is allowed because Stalker was made by a company SO AWSOME that it said "Hey, you can use our files in other games!" because they knew that every other game having 'STALKER' this and 'STALKER' that would only improve sales and recongition of thier brand. Sadly, other companys have not figured this out yet, and as such, Most porting is considered 'illegal' untill you can point to the company releasing something offical saying otherwise. AutoPumpaction
Befor you spend time to bother people with these illegal plans which you call "ideas", maybee you should use this time to learn how to do it yourself and enjoy it than. just for you. Jopo1980
So, I should ask for permission from Bohemia Interactive to use their stuff in FNV and give them a rationale that it will boost sales? I think I´ll do that. Hopefully we get permission to port ARMA 2 weapons over and also some weapons from different mods like the FDF, mod adding Finnish army equipment to ARMA 2. Cyberlazy
Jopo1980: Yep, Pertty much the only way. Also, Make sure you get them to post the reply on thier offical website somehow, Or some other way that can be easily linked from your nexus mod and easily verifyed that it came from someone from within the company (Pertty much posted on there website, or maybe a post by an admin(?) on thier offical forums (if they have one), Or someone will cry bloody murder and you might get banned. Highly suggest getting whatever 'proof' you obtain verifyed as 'enough' with some nexus moderators. On a subnote, While porting without authorization is a nono, you CAN however start from scratch and make your own model/texture that just *looks* like any of those guns (Perticularly considering most of them exist in real life) If the (finnish equipment) 'mods' you talk about are 3rd party, you could also seek permission from those mod authors (idealy getting them to post on there mod "Permission given to XYZ for use in FONV"), assuming they made there own models. Some mod authors have gotten stung by asking permission to use another persons resources when it turns out the other person stole/illegaly ported/etc them in the first place, so the permission is not really valid. I might also note that a number of the guns you list, are found in Shrapnel: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37342 if you wanna try some of them out today. I'll just say one last thing that there likey is no direct converter between the game formats, and most of the vital animation information will likey be lost, or very hard to convert over, Even information like where the persons hands go on the weapon, and where the bullet comes from, Will likey be lost and need redoing. Jopo1980
That shrapnel weapon pack is nice, it almost has all the weapons of ARMA 2 in it, but where are the rocket launchers? We need more heavy weapons than the crappy vanilla rocket launcher. Porting the ARMA 2 rocket launchers like SMAW and MAAWS and RPG-7 plus possibly the missile launchers like Javelin and Metis would be nice. There would be multiple ammo types available for those as well, like HEAT and HEDP (High Explosive Dual Purpose, an anti-tank round with fragmentation for anti-infantry use) and for Fallout we could make new types of ammo like EMP rockets etc.
Heffy
I’d say don’t bother, the guys at bohemia are somewhat pissy as it comes to that. They made a real fuss at the time about reverse engineering the ARMA models. And that wasn’t even about porting, but for making mods for their own game. They did, however release the unencrypted models some days later but it was explicitly written in the eula included with these that it is strictly forbidden to port them to other games. Also, it’s a long time I haven’t checked, but it’s likely that there are no conversion tools for doing so anyway. The very first version of Oxygen 2 had an option for exporting to obj, but it disappeared in the later versions. A problem you’ll be facing with implementing “realistic” rocket launchers in Fallout NV would be the animations. These are very hm… specific… and won’t fit any existing rocket launcher. At least not any LAW, SMAW or RPG-7. In other words, to add such rocket launchers you’ll need to modify the animations linked to this type of weapons. Which isn’t such a tiny deal… Edited November 29, 2011 by Heffy
AutoPumpaction
By the way. Many of these Weapons are already made for Fallout3 and NV, but he doesn't even look for it. Thats lazy. But demanding everything, yeah right,.
