PsYchotic666Joker
So you're telling me a game has to have good graphics to be good? or at least keep you playing? For example these games here have to look good to be good to you? sucks to be you people :/ http://a4.mzstatic.com/us/r1000/059/Purple/e9/e6/4f/mzl.nehnqumu.320x480-75.jpghttp://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~brlowe/cod_089.gifhttp://www.ps3hax.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/doom.jpg
Arcadiast
Too much emphasis on graphics has RUINED the gaming industry. No my friend. Fanboys have ruined the gaming industry. @PsYchotic666Joker what are you proposing? back to the 20th century? besides, those games you showed set graphical standards at their time. squareenixx
So what are these "other open world games"? Minecraft? Well if you know how draw distance works you wouldn't always grab onto it. You do realize that distant objects in Skyrim aren't even rendered with normal resolution textures also they have less geometric detail and of course a lame part of Skyrim is the shadow draw distance which seems laughable. You can walk near something and see the shadow being drawn up. So other open world games with better graphics are. 1. Stalker Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat2. Crysis 1 and Warhead 3. Two worlds 24. Gothic 45. Farcry
AbleGnome
Now you don't want the game to be like Crysis with photorealism graphix and zero gameplay, do you? Just hang on for some weeks/months until huge texture packs appear. ;) How is that even a valid point when there are far too many games with good graphics and better stories than Skyrim. 1. The Witcher 22. Dragon Age Origins3. Two Worlds 24. Gothic 45. Deus Ex HR6. Stalker games7. Half Life series8. Lord of the Rings war in the north9. Star Craft 2 I could add some fine adventure games to that list. A great game should be the whole package, just like a film is -- story, acting, human drama, conflict and challenges, and a compelling world. I play these games to be swept off to fantasy worlds. Today, we don't have to settle for a representation of a world anymore. It can virtually come alive. Graphics are as vital as good voice acting, and both can bring a game crashing down. So can story, and so can any of the other elements. Skyrim graphics are irregular. Some I shake my head at, others I stare in wonder. Can story "make up" for bad graphics? No. That idea just doesn't play. The game goes from an A to a B. Graphics support story, and vice versa. When one is weak, the game is weaker. Arcadiast
lol @ starcraft 2 ^^ okay thats a good point! I think there are games that need a little less emphasis on graphics then others. Would you want SC2 graphics in Skyrim? A great game should be the whole package, just like a film is -- story, acting, human drama, conflict and challenges, and a compelling world. nicely put there sir! If i may add a few words of my own to it. It should of course be fitting for the setting. If say I am watching a Drama or a thriller, I can live with less or no special effects but if I am to watch a Action or SciFi Movie, I sure would want some "eyecandy". Movies and Games are a lot like cousines. Like a chef, a director or a lead designer have to find the right mix of ingredients to create a delicious meal which will taste so good that people come back for more. Thats the essence of it. No i'm not saying that, all i meant was you CAN play a game and have fun even if it has 'shitty' graphics, the way i see it is simpleGameplay > Graphics and yes i know they set the standard for their time, which i still to this day PLAY THEM as i still have my original copies! Violentguy
If you want super duper uber graphics, go look out your window. But if that's not clear enough then try opening it. I'd bet that you graphics-crazy people will still complain. A game is just that: a game. Have fun with it for a while. If you want better graphics, well, go to the park or something. squareenixx
@Miraboreasu oh great, another "Graphics not important" messenger. Yes we get it, a game that is lacking in every other aspect wont be saved by graphics no matter how good they are. So far I am getting this right yes? good! But "NOT important"? really? so you know what, lets dump graphics alltogether and get back to textbased RPGs from good (very) old days. Lets spend all that time "wasted" on good graphics on superdupermagicalcureall gameplay and see how many people buy it. Yes....again yes, Graphics are not everything but they are important because they hugely, much more than you are ready to admit, add to the complete "Artwork" that a game is (or should be). Besides, there is no law forbidding paying customers to ask for good Gameplay AND good graphics. So thank you for reminding me again that Graphics alone are not everything, but dont tell me they are not important. Because they damn well are! Don't get worried about these idiots that say graphics aren't important they are basically as ignorant as COD fanboys. I would like to see these people that say graphics don't matter just bump down all the graphics to minimum and set your screen at the lowest resolution and start playing. As far as video games go graphics are the main component. "video" games. And why do these idiots think that if a game has good graphics it has to have a crap story or vice versa. Look at all the final fantasy games up till 10. Look at the Witcher, Starcraft, Half life, Two world 2, Deus Ex HR, Mass Effect.

These games looked damn smoking hot back in the days so they do not support your argument I'm afraid.
